Gonzalez Scores 25, JHS Takes Down St. Francis 67-55 For 3rd Straight Win
HAMBURG — Behind 25 points from Dominic Gonzalez, Jamestown captured its third straight win Saturday, downing St. Francis 67-55 in a nonleague basketball game.
“Lots of foul trouble,” Red & Green head coach Billy Miley said. “Dom missed most of the third quarter with four fouls, (but) we held them to seven points in the fourth.”
Other than his hiatus on the bench, Gonzalez, the senior guard, was dominant. He scored 11 points in the first quarter to help stake Jamestown (3-2) to a 25-16 lead, and he finished the game shooting 9 of 16 from the floor, including 4 of 4 from the arc.
Senior Gavin Johnson chipped in 11 points, seven rebounds, four blocks and three assists; and senior Elijah Farmer added 9 points, 14 rebounds, four blocks, three assists and two steals for the Red & Green, who will be back in action at 7:30 tonight when they entertain Frontier in an Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 game at McElrath Gymnasium.
For St. Francis, which trailed 51-48 after three quarters, Lindstrom led the way with 19 points and Reuzza chipped in 14.
NOTES: Jamestown shot 25 of 48 from the floor, including 8 of 18 from the arc; and held a 38-20 rebounding advantage (Karson Milne grabbed 10 boards). … St. Francis shot 19 of 53 from the field, including 3 of 19 from distance, but did force 19 turnovers. … In the junior varsity game, Jamestown evened its record at 2-2 by downing St. Francis 73-49. Noah Gonzalez paced the Red & Green with 17 points and Blake Swanson added 13.
