Eagles, Trojans Dominate All-State Team

Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton Has 7, Southwestern/Frewsburg Has 6 On Class C Squad

The Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton football team ascended to a level achieved just one before in the program’s history this year.

On Wednesday, seven Eagles were recognized by the New York State Sportswriters Association for their accomplishments by being named to Class C all-state teams.

Senior tight end Asher Olson and senior kicker Carson Fairbank were named to the first team, senior defensive lineman Clayton Smith was named to the second team, senior linebacker Trent Houser was named to the third team, and senior quarterback Brayden Gibbs, sophomore linebacker Tristen Gibbs and senior defensive back Devin Hewes were all honorable-mention selections.

Southwestern/Frewsburg had six players recognized in Class C. Senior running back Bradyn Fuller, junior linebacker Zach Markham and senior defensive back Roger Markham were named to the first team, senior quarterback Trent Lewis was named to the second team, senior lineman Brayden Potter was named to the third team, and junior kicker Oscar Harris was an honorable-mention selection.

Also in Class C, Clymer/Sherman/Panama senior defensive lineman Matt Redlecki was named to the first team.

Gowanda/Pine Valley and Randolph each had a trio of players recognized in Class D while Silver Creek/Forestville and Franklinville/Ellicottville each had one.

For the Panthers, senior running back Winter Mentley-Peters was named to the first team, senior quarterback Carter Capozzi was named to the second team and senior wide receiver Trelin Warrior received honorable mention. For the Cardinals, junior tight end Carter Conley was named to the first team along with senior offensive lineman Izaias Dowdy while senior defensive lineman Hunter Foster received honorable mention. Titans senior offensive lineman Grady Byroads was named to the second team and Black Knights junior offensive lineman Vince Prinzbach received honorable mention.

Section VI had several other players recognized in Class C. Named to the first team were Eden/North Collins senior quarterback Brady Waring and Portville/Cuba-Rushford/Bolivar-Richburg senior defensive lineman Jake Ziegler. Medina senior running back Christian Moss, Eden/North Collins junior wide receiver Silas Nellis, Barker/Royalton-Hartland senior linebacker Vinny Fazzio and Portville/Cuba-Rushford/Bolivar-Richburg senior defensive back Aidan DeFazio were named to the second team. Named to the third team were Eden/North Collins senior wide receiver Isaiah Nellis and senior teammate defensive lineman Hunter Esford. Players to receive honorable-mention recognition were WNY Maritime-Tapestry senior running back Jayvon Funderburk, and Akron senior wide receivers Blake Gerstung and Colin Miller.

Section I Bronxville senior running back/linebacker Brian Formato and Section XI Babylon senior running back/linebacker Aidan Winter were named co-Players of the Year in Class C.

Thirteen other Section VI players were recognized in Class D, all from sectional finalists Newfane and Wilson. For Panthers, senior quarterback Mac Capen and senior defensive lineman Colin Doxey were named to the first team, senior wide receiver Isaiah Gerstung and junior defensive lineman Nasir Spencer were named to the second team, and senior defensive lineman Tristian Smith, junior linebacker Jake Morello and senior defensive back Camro Flowers received honorable mention. For the Lakemen, senior wide receiver Ryan Hough and senior linebacker Brock Lepsch were named to the first team, senior running back Michael Ruble and senior defensive lineman Koa Leapai were named to the second team, and senior defensive back Josiah Lawrence and junior kicker Connor Woodward received honorable mention.

Section IV Tioga senior running back/linebacker/defensive back Logan Bellis was named the Player of the Year.

No local players were recognized in Class B, but 24 from Section VI were. Named to the first team were South Park senior offensive lineman Joe Sacco and Depew junior linebacker Zach Bridenbaker. Named to the second team were Iroquois senior quarterback Justus Kleitz and senior teammate wide receiver Nick Skutnik, Depew senior offensive lineman Mason McGloin, Pioneer senior offensive lineman Takota Smith and Lackawanna senior defensive lineman Kurt Stevens Jr. On the third team were Williamsville South senior wide receiver Evan Zankl and Iroquois senior defensive lineman Richard Donohue. Williamsville South junior quarterback Phillip Gangi was named to the fourth team and Olean senior punter Joe Mest was named to the fifth team. On the sixth team were Williamsville South senior running back Amir Ceasar, Iroquois senior wide receiver T.J. Domino and senior defensive lineman teammate Tyler Urmson, West Seneca East junior linebacker Kyler Monterro and South Park senior defensive back Julius Jackson. Honorable-mention selections in Class B included Lackawanna senior quarterback Michael Moore, Lackawanna senior running back Naseam Dahli, Olean senior wide receiver Mykel Rivera, Depew senior defensive lineman Roman Boyer, Starpoint junior linebacker Victor Collins, Iroquois junior defensive back Steffano Passucci, Williamsville South senior kicker Declan Coleman and Starpoint senior kicker Jace Steiner.

Section V Monroe senior wide receiver/defensive back Messiah Hampton was named the Player of the Year.
