Week 1 of the Northwest Arena Dot’s Gift Boutique Winter Backyard Curling League saw 90 different teams hit the ice to begin the new year.

BUD LIGHT MONDAY 5:40 LEAGUE

Bob and Melissa Rich ignited an explosive Curling Hares offense to defeat Jimmy Shimmey’s 51-34 and CMC Cleaning 53-37.

Lauren Lapinski took charge for The Rolling Stones with efficiency in wins over Gren’s Growlers 44-37 and Fruit of the Brooms 52-44.

Better Than Last Year, guided by Bill and Judy Lehman, took down Jimmy Shimmey’s 44-36 and Gren’s Growlers in a 47-46 shootout.

Bob Ricker and Cold as Ice grinded out tough victories against Kubota Krew 39-33 and Shoeless Joe’s Pub 38-37.

Fruit of the Brooms got past TRCurlers 49-37 with rookie Dave Mays showing up in his debut.

Rich Tyger and Shoeless Joe’s Pub edged Gemstones 47-37.

Steve Lindquist and Gemstones rallied the second time out with Drunken Sliders 45-31.

Don Schrecongost and Kubota Krew held off Curling Cousins 37-35.

Aaron Bush and Curling Cousins secured the split by knocking off CMC Cleaning(45-40.

Ned Baudo delivered the game-winning stone for Drunken Sliders to complete the comeback versus TRCurlers 34-33.

BUD LIGHT MONDAY 6:40 LEAGUE

Sue Arnold and Katie Stronz both received the first-star honor as Curl Jam finished off War Vets 37-26 and Pickle Pushers 48-35.

David Ruby, Susan Justham, and Frosty Curlers capped off a 2-0 evening in convincing fashion. A 49-23 clobbering off Stones 2.0 was followed by a 39-26 takedown of Ice Holes.

Bottomland Bandits round out the unbeatens after the opening night. Brian Westerdahl and Jason Stewart provided key defense versus Tree Huggers 25-23 and NAME 31-19.

Eric Anderson and Ice Holes pulled away from Pickle Pushers 51-40.

Cliff Sleasman and Rand Machine escaped Rookies Mafia 40-36.

Brandon Watson and NAME shook off a slow start with Rock Slide for a 39-23 victory.

Terry Smith and Rock Slide rebounded nicely against Sip n Sliders 35-31.

Ann Hammond single-handedly shut down the Slice Mafia defense for a 33-15 Sip n Sliders victory.

Troy Stimson and Stones 2.0 ambushed Rookies Mafia 40-32.

Avidian Needham was the spark Slice Mafia needed to get by Rand Machine 41-35.

BUD LIGHT 7:40 MONDAY LEAGUE

Dan Abramson and Mark Lindstrom received high praise from Lakeshore Paving. After beating crosstown rival Lakeshore East 38-29, they put away Las Rocas Grandes 28-25.

Chris Filkens and Scott Axelson had a similar outcome with those teams. Frozen Assets made it a tough night for Lakeshore East 39-33 and Las Rocas Grandes 26-19.

Stark Gravel witnessed an all-around performance from Aden Froah and Zach Liden in conquests of Chillbillies 35-22 and Rock Sliders 28-20.

When Home Despots needed it most, Todd Singleton took matters into his own hands. He captained the unit to victory against Chillbillies 33-27 and Rock Sliders 27-26.

RAVEN & RUNE TAVERN

WEDNESDAY 5:30 LEAGUE

Jeff Goerkel and Rob Newell were the Knuckle Draggers’ dynamic-duo in battles with Head for the Mountains 45-32 and We Love Beer 44-39.

Nate Thornton and Amy Thompson could not be stopped as Ice Holers wrote off Had a Few 48-28 and Stone Cold Maidens 48-35.

12 Ounce Curls started the season with a hot streak versus MARKSMEN 43-40 and Girls With Stones 43-29 with John Pincaro and Jeff Housler leading the way.

Todd Frangione and Paul Silzle got the job done in a rollercoaster night for Legion of Broom, cruising by Slone Melhuish 39-13 and surviving Geriatric Curlers 32-32.

Kristi Kathman and Stone Cold Maidens topped Girls With Stones 42-39.

Mike Latone Jr. and Head for the Mountains squeezed by We’ve Got the Stones 40-38.

Tom Lassen and Geriatric Curlers outclassed J-1 Auto 40-18.

Rich Wilson and the J-1 Auto crew responded with a quality win versus We Love Beer (40-34).

Mike Youngberg and his critical shots elevated Had a Few over We’ve Got the Stones 43-34.

Slone Melhuish slid by MARKSMEN 45-38 thanks to Carl Pilliterri.

RAVEN & RUNE TAVERN

WEDNESDAY 6:30 LEAGUE

Bill Anderson and In the House were out of the gates fast versus Margarita Madness 31-27 and Curling Me Softly 48-39.

Curls Gone Wild clocked out with two wins with Amy Hook and Mark Snow putting the final touches on The Brush Offs 39-28 and Margarita Madness 41-31.

Paul Gustafson and Kyler Majka took the name “Ice Men” to heart in feats of Perfect Stones 35-34 and 12 oz. Curlers 32-21.

Nuttin’ Buttons made their curling debut in high-flying fashion. Colby Welker and Shane Rhodes put the league on notice after walking down Stuart Tool & Die 35-26 and Curling Me Softly.

Travis Higgs and Howie McIntyre bunkered down in clutch time for Got Stones. They did not succumb to the pressure in tight matchups with 12 oz. Curlers 32-29 and Stuart Tool & Die 30-22.

Team No Name put on a defensive masterclass behind Cade Egan and Nathan Donisi. They left Smokin’ Rocks with no answers 26-19 and Ice Ice Baby shaking their heads 29-18.

Jenn Swanson started to heat up for The Brush Offs in their win over Ice Ice Baby 47-37.

John Panebianco and Perfect Stones pulled off a nailbiter with Smokin’ Rocks 33-30.

RAVEN & RUNE TAVERN

WEDNESDAY 7:30 LEAGUE

Stones & Cones put up the most points of any team on Wednesday night. Christine Silzle and Jenn Scolton had the offense scorching against Sub Zero 48-31 and Barney’s Hoof Trimming 48-34.

Brandon Rowely, Michelle Richau and Flintstones started perfect with a pair of close calls versus QUEST 40-34 and Haggy’s 4 Below 23-20.

Kayla Fardink and Michelle “Bullseye” Blair made things look easy as On the Rocks defeated Rock Blockers 29-20 and Copy Cats 30-17.

Rachell Rollman, Jill Scott and Sheet Faced grinded out two slugfests with Haggy’s 4 Below 31-26 and HCH Interior 19-16.

Brent Anderson and Barney’s Hoof Trimming were on the right side of a thriller with Hit n Miss 33-30.

Jason Sivak and Hit n Miss picked up their first win in franchise history over Hillbilly Sliders 28-23.

Tina Currie Sub Zero dominated the extra frame against Six Stones & a Stick 25-20.

Sharon Currie and HCH Interior walloped Six Stones & a Stick 32-13 from start to finish.

Randy Felton got the job done for Hillbilly Sliders against Rock Blockers 27-15.

Grant Olson and Copy Cats found a way to split the evening by knocking off QUEST 30-20.

RYAN DEPPAS/LEGEND GROUP FRIDAY 4:30 LEAGUE

Snow Good at This did not slide quietly into their new league spot Friday afternoon, as they took home their first two wins in the “Happy Hour” League, as they bested Curl Jam 35-30 and Frost Bitten Twice Shy 29-25, behind steady play from Dave Hendrick and Anna Dibble.

Tracy’s Dog came back with revenge on their minds as they started the new season with two high-scoring affairs, as they topped 2 Curls & A Cup 49-48 and Bemus Boulders 45-43, with Bob Paterniti and Nick Lucas laying down the hammer.

It looks like the league is going to be well balanced as eight teams all went 1-1 on the night. Starting with Curl Jam knocking off Curlews 32-30, led by Kenny Kaltenbach.

Buddy Degnan secured the 35-34 win in overtime, with his game-winning stone against Sweeping Beauties.

Curlew topped Cold Beer Here in its first game back, as Gary Bletsch showed off his nifty stickwork 48-36.

Lions & Bears started off with a bang, as Barb Lyons and Dawn Columbare threw up a 10-spot in the opening end and never looked back, to give their team a 44-38 win.

Nancy Welker showed no mercy with a dominating performance, leading Ba Na Ma Na past Sweeping Beauties 51-36.

In the battle of Bemus, the Bemus Boulders outlasted the Bemus Sliders 55-45 with Holly Sullivan peppering the house all game long.
