Behind standout performances from freshmen Carley Daniels and Payton Gibbs, Jamestown upended Salamanca 73-53 in the opening game of the Roger Weiss Showcase at McElrath Gymnasium on Saturday.
Daniels scored 6 points, dished out 11 assists and grabbed six rebounds, Gibbs scored 17 points and collected three assists, and when combined with 15 points from Makena Pryce and 10 from Anna Engquist, the Red & Green claimed their season opener against their Cattaraugus County foe.
Jamestown had a strong first half, leading 19-8 after the first quarter and 43-21 at halftime, but the Warriors didn’t wilt, trimming the lead to 58-46 with 4:32 remaining. Pryce, however, spearheaded an 8-2 surge over the next two minutes to put the game away.
Makenzie Crouse paced the Warriors (0-2) with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Ella Crouse chipped in 9 points.

QUAKERS OUTLAST SOUTHWESTERN
Orchard Park outscored Southwestern 14-3 in the third quarter en route to a 48-36 win.
Erin Haggerty led the Quakers (2-0) with 14 points and Caroline Brown added 10. Five different players scored during the eight minutes following halftime.
Charlotte Beaver led the Trojans (1-1) with 14 points, including four 3-pointers, seven rebounds and three steals while Gianna Sirianni had 11 points. Marlana Cresanti had five rebounds and three steals in defeat.

WEST SENECA DOWNS RANDOLPH
Ava Gunnells scored 12 of her game-high 21 points in a decisive second quarter that propelled West Seneca to a 55-31 victory over Randolph.
After the first period, the Cardinals only trailed 11-7, but were outscored 21-8 in the subsequent eight minutes. The second half was played on fairly even terms.
Bellarose Milligan chipped in 13 points for the Warhawks, helping her team improve their record to 2-0.
For Randolph (1-1), Ava Sears scored 15 points; Gianna Bowles added 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists; and Hannah Hill pulled down nine rebounds.

Amherst outscored Sherman 19-6 in the third quarter en route to a 50-45 victory.
Ada Radomski and Lucy Giordano led the Tigers (2-2) with 16 points apiece. Giordano scored 8 and Radomski had 6 during the decisive eight minutes after halftime.
Emmersen Crawford paced the Wildcats (0-2) with 21 points and 15 rebounds while Madison Emory had 9 points and three steals.

BEARS FALL TO HORNELL
Hornell’s Jordan Dyring scored 18 points and Selena Maldonado added 15 to lead a balanced attack en route to a 62-55 victory over Frewsburg.
The Bears, who led 18-13 after the first quarter, were outscored 23-12 in the second period, highlighted by 6 points from A’Jonay Hawkins and Mia Nasca, and 5 from Maldonado. That proved to be the difference.
For the Bears (1-1), Jadyn Trocki scored a game-high 21 points, Elysse Gruber had 16 and Abery Harvey added 13.

TIP-OFF AT THE LAKE TOURNAMENT
EAGLES CLAIM TITLE
MAYVILLE — Kaylee Tarr scored 17 points to lead four players in double figures as host Chautauqua Lake upended Franklinville 59-36 in the championship game of the Tip-Off at the Lake Tournament.
Tarr, who was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, was joined on the all-tournament team by teammate Brina Jacobson, who scored 4 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Also contributing to the winning effort were Karie Tarr and Eden Ludwig, who had 11 points apiece; and Cameron Mackey, who had 10 points, five steals and three assists.
Chautauqua Lake (2-1) held a one-point lead after the first quarter, but the Tarrs both scored 6 points during an 18-7 second-quarter run to push the margin to 28-16 at halftime.
For Franklinville, Grace Cornell had 8 points and was named to the all-tournament team.
In the consolation game, Gowanda upended Dunkirk. The Panthers’ Karina Johnson and the Marauders’ Emily Pacheco were all-tournament selections.

NORTHWESTERN TIPOFF CLASSIC
PANAMA DROPS A PAIR
ALBION, Pa. — Panama fell in a pair of games at the Northwestern Tipoff Classic, 58-38 to host Northwestern (Pa.) on Friday and 55-39 to Conneaut (Pa.) on Saturday.
In the opener, four-star Arizona recruit Makayla Presser-Palmer scored 29 points to lead the host Wildcats. Morgan Gorzynski added 19 points, including a game-high five 3-pointers.
The Panthers (0-3) were led by freshman McKenna Kolstee with 14 points, followed by Kiera Loberg with 13 points.
On Saturday, Courtney Perrye scored all 21 of her points after halftime as Conneaut beat Panama 55-39.
The Eagles led just 17-15 at halftime, but Perrye scored 16 points, including three 3-pointers, during Conneaut’s 24-point third quarter. BreAnne Dendis followed Perrye with 14 points in the game.
Kiera Loberg led the Panthers with 22 points and Jessica Lyon added 10.
