Pair Of Dunkirk DBs Named To Class B2 First-Team Defense

The Iroquois football team had a perfect season in Section VI Class B2 action, posting a 7-0 record while outscoring opponents 275-81.

Behind that success was one of the best quarterbacks in Section VI, senior Justus Kleitz. In his final year, Kleitz completed 185 of 268 passes for 2,561 yards with 39 touchdowns to eight interceptions. He also rushed for another 422 yards on 64 carries and two more touchdowns.

Kleitz was honored as the B2 co-Offensive Player of the Year and the league’s MVP.

Sharing the top offensive honor with Kleitz was Depew running back Zach Bridenbaker who rushed for 1,374 yards with 14 touchdowns on 178 carries.

Kleitz was one of three First-Team quarterbacks with Lackawanna’s Michael Moore and Olean’s Joe Mest, while Bridenbaker was one of six First-Team running backs.

Iroquois also boasted a co-Defensive Player of the Year with Nick Skutnick. The senior defensive back recorded five interceptions with one touchdown and made 39 total tackles.

Lackawanna senior Kurt Stevens Jr. earned the other share of the award after leading the Steelers in tackles with 70 solo and 93 total with two sacks and two forced fumbles.

Iroquois senior Richard Donohue was named the league’s Defensive Lineman of the Year with 57 solo tackles and 72 total, 3.5 sacks and one safety.

Depew’s Mason McGoloin was named Offensive Lineman of the Year after helping the Wildcats rush for 1,962 yards and pass for another 1,120.

Dunkirk was represented on the First-Team Defense in the backfield with senior cornerback Liam McQuiggan and junior safety Aries Cheverez. Then on the Second-Team Offense are senior running back Anthony Piede and eighth-grade wide receiver Jordan Thomas Smith, while junior Jayden Kenner earned a place on the Second-Team Defense at defensive tackle.

Earning honorable mention for the Marauders are seniors Tyree Brooks, Elliel Collazo and Ryan Kinney.

The Coach of the Year award went to Robert Pitzonka of Iroquois and the Team Sportsmanship award recipient in Albion.
