Jamestown Native Kylie O’Brien, 3 Other Blue Devils Recognized For Academics

FREDONIA — Senior Brooke Grazen (Lancaster/Lancaster) was honored by the United Soccer Coaches as an Academic All Region recipient, being named to the Third Team East Region. She earned a 3.94 GPA in Speech Pathology. Grazen, a defender, was previously named First Team All SUNYAC, Third Team All Region, and was named to the All Tournament Team following the Blue Devil Classic this fall.

Head coach Chris Case had this to say about his senior: “Not only does Brooke do an excellent job on the field but she excels to the highest degree in the classroom as well. Brooke is a very intelligent young woman who carries a 3.94 GPA in a very demanding and difficult major in Speech Pathology. I have always been impressed with how well she has done with her academics in such a challenging degree path. I believe her organization and time management are two skills paired with her work ethic and determination to do well that allowed her to earn such a great honor. Very proud to have her recognized for all of her hard work and represent Fredonia State in such a prestigious list of Student Athletes and Universities.”

TRIO HONORED IN VOLLEYBALL

Fredonia State’s Kylie O’Brien (Jamestown/Jamestown), Maeve Musielak (Eden/Eden), and Olivia Boswell (North Tonawanda/Starpoint) have been recognized for their outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments, earning a selection to the 2025 Women’s Volleyball Academic All-District Team, selected by College Sports Communicators.

To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must display combined excellence in their sport and in the classroom, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or above through at least two full semesters at their institution, while also participating in 90%, or starting 66%, of their team’s contests during the season.

O’Brien, a junior, has a 3.73 GPA in Childhood Education. She was a First Team All SUNYAC selection this year after earning Second Team in 2024. O’Brien got stronger as the season went on, which coincided with the Devils second-half surge and eventual playoff berth. The Devils won seven out of ten matches down the stretch, which earned them a home playoff game. She was consistently at the top of the list for kills and led the team with 239 and had a .129 kill percentage. She added 117 digs, 23 blocks, and nine aces.

Musielak, a sophomore, earned a 3.90 in Biology. She did a little bit of everything for the Blue Devils, leading the team with 48 aces, and ranking second with 154 kills, 292 digs, and 538 receptions.

Boswell, a junior, earned a 3.54 GPA in Education. She played in 26 of the teams 28 matches and accumulated 300 assists and 23 aces.

“I’m proud of Kylie, Maeve, and Olivia for earning this special recognition,” said head coach Geoff Braun. “It’s always nice to see hard work rewarded. These three young ladies have been very driven in their academic pursuits and show a passion for their fields of study.”
