Halstrom Sends Maple Grove Past Golden Falcons

FALCONER — Alex Halstrom scored 18 of her game-high 23 points in the first quarter to lead Maple Grove to a 63-29 nonleague girls basketball win over Falconer on Friday night.

Halstrom made five 3-pointers during the opening eight minutes as the Red Dragons (4-2) built a 27-7 lead. Her other five points came on third-quarter free throws.

Meg Ryan had 15 points and 10 rebounds; Bry Cornell had 13 points, 15 rebounds and eight steals; and Alex Caldwell had eight assists in the win.

Sydnee Snow had 14 points, four steals and two blocked shots; Ellyson Baglia had 9 points and eight rebounds; and Alexis Smith had six rebounds and three steals for the Golden Falcons (2-4), who went 21 of 28 from the foul line.

WEST SENECA — West Seneca jumped out to a 24-5 lead after the first quarter en route to a 90-50 Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 girls basketball victory Friday.

Bellarose Milligan and Jayden Ecker scored 19 points apiece to lead the Warhawks (5-0, 2-0) while Ava Gunnells had 18 points and Isabella Ceccarelli had 13.

Payton Gibbs had 15 points and five steals; Anna Enquist had 9 points; Carley Daniels had five steals; and Aiyanna Stam had three steals for the Red & Green (1-2, 0-2).
