Freshman Pours In 36 In Varsity Debut, Cards Breeze
BUFFALO — Syrai Johnson was hardly overwhelmed in his varsity basketball debut for Randolph coach Kevin Hind on Friday.
In fact, the freshman apparently felt right at home.
So much so that he drained seven 3-pointers, including four in the first quarter, on his way to 36 points to propel the Cardinals to 79-33 victory over Hutch Tech in a showcase at McKinley High School.
Broden Brooks added 12 points, Nick Beaver had 10 and Kevin McElwain chipped in 8 for Randolph, which led 26-10 after the first quarter and 43-19 at halftime.
Johnson was on fire in the opening eight minutes, scoring 17 points. By the break, he had 20, after three periods, he was at 26 and then he finished with 10 in the fourth quarter. As a team, the Cardinals connected on 16 treys.
Nobody had more than 9 points for Hutch Tech.
