From Jamestown head coach Tom Langworthy’s perspective, his offense, his defense and his special teams are all trending in the right direction.

At just the right time.

Senior Chase Bonta rushed for 170 yards and scored three touchdowns; sophomore Jackson Grey connected with senior Jada Foreman on a pair of TD passes; and freshman Alaric Richards and senior Jericho Thagard both had pick-6s to highlight the Red & Green’s 56-0 victory over Lockport in a Section VI Class AA quarterfinal Friday night at windswept Strider Field.

The win, its second in a week against the Lions, advances the Red & Green (6-3) into the semifinals against the winner of the Hutch Tech-Orchard Park game, which is scheduled for today.

And for the fourth week in a row, Jamestown was dominant.

“I think we’re playing good ball and starting to balance things out a little bit more,” Langworthy said. “All three phases were working together and that’s what you have to do at this time of year.”

Bonta scored the host’s first touchdown on a 55-yard burst on the Red & Green’s very first offensive play, and tallied the last one late in the third quarter. Sandwiched in between was a little bit of everything.

The individual who jump-started it all was Richards.

The youngest player on the team leaped high to intercept Lockport quarterback Scott Stowe’s pass on the Lions’ ensuing possession and returned it 56 yards for a touchdown. Richards, who added another pick later in the game, also tallied the two-point conversion, giving the Red & Green a 14-0 lead with just under seven minutes remaining in the first quarter.

“I had high expectations for Alaric coming up and he’s exceeded them by a lot,” Langworthy said. “I think what’s so important to know is it’s not just that he’s talented, it’s that everything about him is really special. He wants to learn, wants to get coached and he asks questions, and the questions he asks make you realize he’s thinking about it. They’re more detailed-oriented questions. … He’s full-time defense, full-time offense and he’s on special teams. We’re super proud of Alaric.”

Langworthy had plenty to be proud of last night.

By halftime, the lead ballooned to 42-0, courtesy of a 22-yard touchdown run by senior Luis Diaz; and a pair of Grey-to-Foreman TD passes from 18 and 61 yards.

“The last few weeks (Grey) has been really good,” Langworthy said. “I’m super proud of him.”

After the break, Thagard picked off a Stowe pass and returned it 50 yards for a score, and Bonta capped the dominant win with TD runs of 39 and 16 yards.

The Lions, who suffered a 57-14 loss to Jamestown last week, moved the ball fairly well at times, but saw drives stall thanks to penalties or turnovers.

NOTES: Grey completed all four of his passes for 122 yards and the two TDs to Foreman, good for 79 yards. Kameron Monroe also had two receptions for 43 yards. … Defensively, Angel Martinez collected 10 tackles, including three for loss; Bonta added 10 stops; Diaz was credited with nine; and Thagard, who finished with two interceptions, and Cole Anderson both had a pair of sacks. … Evan Maloney booted six point-after kicks. … During the Red & Green’s four-game winning streak, it has outscored its opponents 208-27.
