Three Jayhawks Receive All-Region Soccer Honors

The Jamestown Community College men’s soccer team had a trio of Jayhawks earn All-Region 3 accolades.

Freshman Casimiro Espeso Gayte received second-team honors. He finished the season with four goals and 11 assists for 19 points in 19 games. The 11 helpers led the team.

Sophomores Shane Bennett and Braidan Govan took home third-team recognition.

Bennett notched four goals and seven assists for 15 points in 19 games, including a pair of game-winning goals. Govan led the team in goals at eight. He also had an assist for 17 points, the third-most on the team.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

JAYHAWKS DOWN PENN STATE DUBOIS

DUBOIS, Pa. — It was a perfect weekend for Jamestown Community College basketball, with the men securing a 78-68 opening-night victory over NCAA Division III Penn State Dubois.

Jodan Wright led a trio of Jayhawks (1-0) in double-digit scoring with his 17 points. He was joined by Federico Foddai at 16 and Naeem Richardson at 15 off the bench.

Point guard Marcus Wynter led the way with eight assists to go with his 8 points.

Jamestown CC was all over the glass in the win; seven Jayhawks pulled down at least five boards, including Wright (7), Wynter (5), Foddai (6) and Richardson (8), as well as Pietro Magni (6), Gabriel Collins (5) and Aidan Penchion (7).

The Jayhawks truly made their mark at the free throw line, going 19 of 20 for a 95% clip to help secure the 10-point road win.

They open the home schedule with a game Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. against Lakeland CC.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

JCC TAKES OT THRILLER

DUBOIS, Pa. — The Jamestown Community College women’s basketball team opened the season with a thrilling 86-82 overtime victory at Penn State Dubois on Saturday afternoon.

JCC was led in scoring by freshman Tru Billie, who poured in a game-high 28 points to go along with eight assists and two rebounds. She was joined by three other Jayhawks in double figures: Kendra Altadonna (22), Jani Washington (13) and Lailah McGary (10).

The Jayhawks moved the ball well in the win, leading in assists 24-16 over the Nittany Lions. Billie’s eight assists were the most on the team, followed by six each from Washington and Altadonna.

Jamestown CC also performed on the glass; Altadonna had nine rebounds while Felicity Thiem added seven and McGary had five.

The ladies won the overtime session 14-10 to capture the four-point win.

The victory puts JCC at 1-0 on the year.

JCC opens its home schedule Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. against Lakeland CC.

WRESTLING

JAYHAWKS GO 1-2 IN BRADFORD

BRADFORD, Pa. — Jamestown Community College opened its 2025-26 wrestling season by heading down Interstate 86 for a quad meet at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.

The Jayhawks started the event with a solid 23-18 win over Elmira. Wyatt Bryman, 149 pounds, had a great showing; his 9-0 major decision put Jamestown CC up for good in this matchup. Shayne Irvin, 157 pounds, followed him with another major decision, this one 13-0. Joshua Kriger, 285 pounds, finished the bout with an 11-5 decision to secure Jamestown’s five-point victory.

Things didn’t go as well for the green and gold against Utica. Bryman once again claimed a win with a pin at 3:32 to get Jamestown CC on the board. Evan Leonard, 165 points, joined the win column, taking his match by fall at 58 seconds. Kriger also locked down a pin at 5:37, but it wasn’t enough, as the Jayhawks lost 41-18.

Jamestown CC struggled against Pitt Bradford, falling 47-3. Brad Smith, 184 pounds, earned the Jayhawks’ only points with a 7-4 decision.

The Jayhawks now get ready for the Defend the Lake Duals hosted by Garrett College on Friday and Saturday.
