RANDOLPH — No. 5 Silver Creek/Forestville possessed the ball for nearly 40 minutes of the game en route to a 20-0 victory over No. 4 Randolph in Section VI Class D quarterfinal action Friday at Raymond Van Wie Stadium.

Will Duliba completed 8 of 11 passes for 113 yards and two touchdowns while Manny Sanchez ran for 70 yards for the Black Knights, who will travel to No. 1 Newfane for next weekend’s semifinals.

“We were obviously in a low place in Week 2. We played it out. We said ‘guys you still have everything in front of you,'” head coach Sean Helmer said about a Sept. 12 forfeit against Gowanda/Pine Valley. “We started to play better, we weren’t necessarily winning, but we got healthier. You start stacking wins and the kids start believing a little bit.”

Silver Creek/Forestville scored the lone touchdown of the first half after marching 12 plays and 72 yards on its first offensive series of the game. The drive, which lasted nearly eight minutes, was capped by Gavin DeLong’s 10-yard touchdown run.

After halftime, Dom Anders touchdown passes of 8 yards and 35 yards from Duliba. Anders finished with three catches for 54 yards.

“With weather like that, initially I thought it might be to their advantage. They like to grind the ball. We were able to win a lot on first down, which was an advantage to us,” Helmer said. “Was it our intent to slow the game down? No. We played really well up front and the backs ran really hard, and we made three or four really nice throws.”

Kevin McElwain had seven carries for 39 yards for the Cardinals, who ran just 31 offensive plays.

The Black Knights outgained Randolph 310-101. They were 7 of 13 on third downs and 2 of 3 on fourth downs while the Cardinals were a combined 1 of 10 on those key downs.

Silver Creek/Forestville recovered a fumble and Manny Sanchez intercepted a pass.

The winner of next week’s game earns a spot in the sectional championship game.

“Newfane is outstanding,” Helmer said. “This gives us a chance to play in a game that can take you to the stadium.”
