BUFFALO — Southwestern and Chautauqua Lake high school sailors attended the Great Pumpkin Regatta recently at Buffalo Yacht Club.

It was a beautiful day. The morning started with strong winds that tested the sailors’ heavy weather skills. As the day went on, the temperature warmed up and breeze lightened, giving everyone a chance to show off their roll tacks and gybes. It was great to see so many participants in the costume contest this year.There were some amazing costumes on and off the water, making the day even more festive.

Sailing for Southwestern were Jack Colburn and Aiden Solarz in A Division, with Jack Webb and Kurt Johnson in B Division. Sailing for Chautauqua Lake were Gabe Logan with Vivian Watson in B Division, with sailors for Brighton sailing in A Division.

Logan and Watson ended the day in fifth place for B Division, with finishes as high as second and third place. This is Chautauqua Lake’s best showing so far this season for the young team.

Southwestern had some struggles getting off of the line, however both A and B Division had finishes as high as fourth place.
