Jayhawks Update Record Boards, Beats Erie CC, Genesee CC
In a night that started with changing out the plates on the Jamestown Community College swimming and diving record boards, it was the future of the program on full display with several freshmen putting on great performances for the Jayhawks, who swept their home conference meet over Erie CC and Genesee CC.
Starting with the ladies, Cassie Lyon won the 200-yard freestyle, with fellow freshman Katrina DeGroff coming in second.
Sophomores ruled the 500-yard free; reigning Region 3 Swimmer of the Week Desiree Putt just outtouched teammate Emily Swan for a one-two finish.
Newcomer Roxanne Lothian earned a victory in the 400-yard individual medley with her time of 5:18:96.
Flipping to the butterfly, Willow Chase and Addison Lawson captured second and third for the Jayhawks.
The 100-yard freestyle saw Chase grab another silver, and DeGroff earned a third. The pair was separated by two-tenths of a second.
It was a podium sweep for the Jayhawks in the 100-yard backstroke. Putt edged out Lothian by less than a second, with Gervasio grabbing a third.
Jamestown was first and second in the 500-yard freestyle; Lyon topped Swan for the quickest time by almost three seconds.
Putt and Lawson were back in the water for the 100-yard individual medley. The duo took second and fourth, respectively.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Lothian was back on top, finishing more than 13 seconds ahead of second-place teammate Katrina DeGroff.
Finishing up the ladies’ swims was the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Jayhawks secured the win in a time of 4:21:16, behind the group of Lyon, Gervasio, Chase and Swan.
For the men, Daniel Peterson continues to shine, taking first in the 100-yard freestyle by edging out teammate Cameron Milewski by just over a second. Jamestown CC’s Diego Villarroel took fourth in the event.
Peterson also won the 100-yard individual medley by nearly two seconds; Christian Merrill earned fourth and Tayanda Sebalo fifth.
It was a one-two finish in the 50-yard freestyle, with Milewski grabbing the gold by almost four seconds ahead of second-place Villarroel.
Sophomore Zach Johnson continues his fast start to 2025. The South African won the 400-yard individual medley by more than four seconds. He also took second in the 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard backstroke.
In the distance swims, it was Lawson taking second in the 1,000-yard freestyle while Sophia Gervasio brought home third. Samuel Hersom and Noah Miles earned third and fourth respectively in the men’s event.
Lastly, in the diving well, Milewski also shined, taking first with a score of 238.27, just off his program record of 247.20.
The Jayhawk women and men are both 4-0. They have a quick turnaround as they are back at the JCC Aquatic Center today at 11 a.m. to host the JCC Invite.
