Southwestern/Jamestown, Frewsburg/Falconer Claim CCAA Titles
OLEAN — Southwestern/Jamestown and Frewsburg/Falconer emerged as champions at the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Girls Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday at Olean Intermediate Middle School.
Southwestern/Jamestown won the Division 1 title with 422 points, thanks to seven first-place finishes, four second-place finishes and two third-place finishes out of 12 events.
Frewsburg/Falconer won the Division 2 crown with 364 points after three first-place finishes, three seconds and six thirds.
For Southwestern/Jamestown, Clarissa Hren won the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.78) and 100-yard backstroke (1:01.27), Annalisa Krug captured the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.47) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.77), and Gabriella Bango claimed the 100-yard freestyle (58.79). The Trojans were also victorious in the 200-yard medley relay (1:59.73) and 400-yard freestyle relay. Bango was also second in the 200-yard freestyle, Johnna Farrell was second in the 50-yard freestyle, Abigail Cama was second in the 100-yard breaststroke and the Trojans were second in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Sydney Frederes led Frewsburg/Falconer with victories in the 50-yard freestyle (26.56) and 100-yard butterfly (58.87) while Anelia Pitts won the 1-meter diving competition Monday with 469.15 points. Kaylee Melquist was second in the 500-yard freestyle while Frewsburg/Falconer was also second in the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relays.
Panama/Maple Grove/Clymer/Sherman was second in Division 1 with 356 points after three first-place finishes, three second-place finishes and two third-place finishes.
Winners for Panama/Maple Grove/Clymer/Sherman included Emery Watkins in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.67) and 500-yard freestyle (5:42.39) as well as the 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:50.58). Second-place finishes came from Addi Bryant in the 100-yard butterfly, Paiten Harvey in the 500-yard freestyle and the 400-yard freestyle relay team.
Salamanca was second in Division 2 with 355 points, thanks to three first-place finishes, eight second-place finishes and four third-place finishes.
Addi Follman won the 100-yard backstroke (1:10.27) while the Warriors also took first in the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays.
Second-place finishes for Salamanca came from Kynleigh Wass (200-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle), Juliana Smith (200-yard individual medley), Follman (50-yard freestyle), Rileigh Hutchison (1-meter diving), Ava Chriss (100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke) and Charli Ross (100-yard breaststroke).
Fredonia/Dunkirk/Forestville/Pine Valley/Cassadaga Valley was third in Division 1 with 239 points, thanks to two first-place finishes, four second-place finishes and three third-place finishes.
The two winners for Fredonia/Dunkirk/Forestville/Pine Valley/Cassadaga Valley were Georgie May in the 50-yard freestyle (27.51) and Brooklyn Smith in Monday’s 1-meter diving competition (308.10). The team was second in the 200-yard medley relay while Olivia Burlingame (200-yard individual medley) and May (100-yard freestyle) also turned in second-place showings.
Allegany-Limestone was third in Division 2 with 282 points after three first-place finishes, a second-place finish and a third-place finish. Winners for the Gators included Sammi Vecchio in the 200-yard individual medley (2:29.88) and 100-yard butterfly (1:03.87) as well as their 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:53.27).
Olean/Portville was fourth in Division 1 with 229 points after four third-place showings.
Franklinville/Ellicottville/West Valley was fourth in Division 2 with 135 points, thanks to Kayci Landow’s wins in the 200-yard freestyle (2:12.12) and 500-yard freestyle (6:09.09) as well as Diana Li’s victory in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:20.03).
Chautauqua Lake/Westfield was fifth in Division 2 with 87 points.
