Southwestern/Frewsburg Still No. 6

There was very little movement by local teams in the New York State Sportswriters Association’s football rankings this week.
Southwestern/Frewsburg remained the highest-ranked team locally with its No. 6 spot in Class C after beating Salamanca 49-7 last week. That loss dropped the Warriors from No. 19 to honorable mention. Southwestern/Frewsburg will host Clymer/Sherman/Panama on Friday night at Charles A. Lawson Field and Salamanca will host Fredonia tonight at Veterans Memorial Park.
Eden/North Collins moved up a spot to No. 19 in Class C after beating Cardinal O’Hara 35-7 last week. The Raiders host Tonawanda tonight.
Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton remained honorable mention after beating Fredonia 64-16 last Friday at the Orange Bowl. The Eagles visit Bill Race Field to take on Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove this Friday.
Clymer/Sherman/Panama also remained honorable mention after beating Springville 50-7 last Saturday in Panama.
Royalton-Hartland/Barker is No. 14 while Akron and WNY Maritime/Tapestry are honorable mentions in Class C where the No. 1 team is Chenango Forks of Section IV.
Gowanda/Pine Valley moved up to No. 15 from an honorable mention in the Class D rankings after beating Franklinville/Ellicottville 44-34 last Friday. The Panthers will travel to No. 4 Newfane this Friday.
Randolph remained honorable mention after losing to No. 8 Wilson 35-7 last Friday. The Cardinals will look to get back in the win column this Friday at home against Cattaraugus-Little Valley.
Tioga is the No. 1 team in Class D.
Jamestown remained honorable mention in the Class AA rankings after its 46-7 win over Hutch Tech at Strider Field last Friday. The Red & Green will travel to Niagara Falls for a Saturday afternoon game this week.
Also in Class AA, Canisius is No. 9, St. Francis is No. 10, Bennett is No. 19, Lancaster is No. 24 and St. Joe’s is No. 27 while Orchard Park is honorable mention. Iona Prep of New York City’s Catholic High Schools League is No. 1.
In Class A, Health Sciences/Buffalo Academy of Science/Global Concepts is No. 7 and McKinley is No. 16 while Clarence, Grand Island, West Seneca West, Williamsville East and Williamsville North are all honorable mentions. Section VIII’s Garden City is the top-ranked team in the state.
West Seneca East is No. 10, Williamsville South is No. 11 and Iroquois is No. 18 while Depew, Olean and South Park are honorable mentions in Class B. The No. 1 team is Port Jervis of Section IX.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Westfield remained the No. 1 team in Class D in the first girls volleyball rankings in two weeks.
The Wolverines beat Cassadaga Valley and Silver Creek last week while losing to No. 4 Maple Grove. Westfield returns to action tonight at home against Randolph.
The Red Dragons improved four spots to that No. 4 rankings after beating Westfield, No. 9 Brocton and Silver Creek last week. Maple Grove, who also beat Cassadaga Valley this past Tuesday, will finish its season next Tuesday at Panama.
Brocton remained No. 9 with its loss to Maple Grove last week. The Bulldogs swept Pine Valley this Tuesday and will host Panama tonight.
Ellicottville is a new honorable mention in Class D. The Eagles beat Randolph and Forestville, but lost to Gowanda last week. They also beat North Collins this Tuesday and will host Forestville on Friday.
In Class C, Chautauqua Lake moved down a spot to No. 4 despite beating Fredonia and Randolph last week. The Eagles beat Panama on Wednesday and will finish their regular season at Southwestern tonight.
Falconer moved down a spot to No. 5 after beating Olean and Fredonia last week. The Golden Falcons, who beat Allegany-Limestone on Tuesday, return to action Monday at No. 2 Portville.
Gowanda remained honorable mention after beating Eden and Ellicottville last week. The Panthers, who beat Randolph on Wednesday, return to action Monday at Allegany-Limestone.
No. 9 Eden is the only other Section VI team in the Class C rankings where Section IX’s Mount Academy is No. 1.
In Class AAA, Lancaster is No. 3 and Section VIII’s Plainedge-Old Bethpage is No. 1.
Orchard Park is No. 2 while Williamsville North and Niagara Wheatfield are honorable mentions in Class AA where Section V’s Webster Schroeder is No. 1.
Williamsville South is No. 4, North Tonawanda is No. 10 and Hamburg is honorable mention in Class A while Pittsford Sutherland of Section V is No. 1.
In Class B, Royalton-Hartland is No. 8 and Depew is honorable mention while Marcellus of Section III is No. 1.
GIRLS SOCCER
Frewsburg dropped three spots to No. 9 in the Class C rankings after beating Chautauqua Lake and Dunkirk, but losing to Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove last week. The Bears wrapped up their regular season with a win at North Collins on Wednesday.
Randolph moved up two spots to No. 14 with wins over Salamanca and Cattaraugus-Little Valley last week. The Cardinals, who beat Pine Valley/Gowanda to clinch a perfect Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 season Wednesday, close their regular season at Chautauqua Lake on Friday.
Wilson is No. 15 and Section II’s Stillwater is No. 1 in Class C.
In Class B, Southwestern remained No. 25 after beating Olean and tying Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove last week. The Trojans closed their regular season with a win over Fredonia on Wednesday.
Also in Class B, St. Mary’s of Lancaster is No. 1 and Alden is No. 20.
Lancaster is No. 18 in Class AAA where Northport of Section XI is the top-ranked team.
Clarence is No. 5, Frontier is No. 7 and Lockport is No. 19 in Class AA where Albertus Magnus of Section I is the No. 1 team.
In Class A, Starpoint is No. 10, Iroquois is No. 12 and Lewiston-Porter is No. 14 while New Hartford of Section III is No. 1.
Section III’s Cincinnatus is the No. 1 team in Class D.
BOYS SOCCER

In Class AA, Lancaster is No. 16 while Fairport of Section V is No. 1.
Clarence is No. 6 and Williamsville East is No. 11 in Class AA while Columbia of Section II is No. 1.
East Aurora is No. 2, Lewiston-Porter is No. 8 and Lackawanna is No. 19 in Class A where the top-ranked team is Shoreham-Wading River of Section XI.
In Class B, Lafayette is No. 3 and Medina is No. 18 while Westhill of Section III is No. 1.
Wilson is No. 2 and Allegany-Limestone is No. 14 in Class C where Naples of Section V is No. 1.
The top-ranked team in Class D is Fillmore of Section V.
