ALLEGANY — Trenton Krenzer raced to a ninth-place finish and led the Fredonia/Westfield boys cross country team to second place at the Southern Tier Classic at Allegany-Limestone Central School on Saturday.

Henry Peterson of City Honors received the Bill Sprague Memorial Award as the top male finisher, blazing to a new course-record time of 15:39.39.

However, it was North East winning the event with an overall team score of 35, placing four runners inside the top 10, finishing 22 points ahead of Fredonia/Westfield at 57.

Among scoring schools, Krenzer took fifth with his time of 17:16.58, while Pietro Cabitza placed 10th and 14th overall at 17:50.57.

The Frewsburg girls placed third out of the eight teams competing and were led by Jadyn Trocki taking 7th and 9th overall at 20:42.39.

Fredonia/Westfield’s Meredith Lendt also cracked the top overall and 8th in team scoring at 20:51.76 and the Hillbillies finished in sixth as a team.

The Bill Sprague Memorial Award winner for the girls was Elke Melnik of Springville with a winning time of 19:27.39, while Eden placed first as a team and was led by second-place finisher Giuliana Fodor.

Randolph finished last among the girls as a team, but Kadence Durow finished 15th overall and 12th in team scoring at 21:43.33
