Curling Leagues
The first week of the Northwest Arena Backyard Curling Fall League is officially in the books with all 70 teams competing.
BUD LIGHT MONDAY 5:45 LEAGUE
Lauren Lapinski and Emily Nelson displayed offensive fireworks for The Rolling Stones in their victories over TRCurlers (65-43) and Drunken Sliders (31-28).
Shoeless Joe’s Pub had a perfect evening behind Chad Waddington and Theresa Jackson against Better Than Last Year (45-30) and Kubota Krew (35-26).
Austin Mitchell earned a star from TRCurlers after they took down Junior Deputies (42-33).
Sue Vincent delivered the deciding stone in overtime for Gemstones in their (41-39) thriller with Cold as Ice.
Matthew Hoaglund and Cold as Ice rebounded nicely against Jimmy Shimmy’s (39-32).
Jessica Hall and Jimmy Shimmy’s used the loss for motivation the next time out (35-18) Gren’s Growlers didn’t see it coming.
Junior Deputies cruised by Curling Cousins (40-22) with Matt Coe paving the way.
Better Than Last Year turned out to be better in the second slate (34-32) as Vince Joy and company got by Drunken Sliders.
Carter Anderson and Curling Hares defeated Gemstones (42-34) by putting up at least six in each end.
Marie Panebianco showcased her shooting for Gren’s Growlers. She made it a tough night for Kubota Krew in (42-36) shootout.
Steve Brown and Curling Cousins stormed back against Fruit of the Brooms (33-28).
Frank Fuller was able to split the night for his team, as Fruit of the Brooms edged Curling Hares (33-21).
BUD LIGHT MONDAY 6:45 LEAGUE
Slice Mafia might have to change their name to Cardiac Kids after their opening night. Nick Rein and Avidian Needham clutched up in the final moments against Pickle Pushers (35-34) and Honest Abe (28-27).
Tyler Smith carried the workload for Bottomland Bandits to be atop the league after finishing off Pickle Pushers (31-26) and NAME (20-14).
Doug Justham captained Frosty Curlers all the way to the final end with Rookies Mafia (43-31).
It was business as usual for Dan Challingsworth and Rand Machine; they clocked out with a (38-29) win over NAME.
Greg Fye and Team 33 stifled the Curl Jam offense towards the end (28-23), only giving up eight points in the second half.
Sue Arnold built the Curl Jam offense back up versus Rookies Mafia (35-28).
Chris Fiasco and Honest Abe utilized a hot start to catapult by War Vets (26-20).
Craig Marker and War Vets avoided a winless evening by narrowly escaping Frosty Curlers (27-26).
Brandon Watson established an identity for NAME in their (27-16) victory over Rock Slide.
Sharon Burak took matters into her own hands for Rock Slide against Rand Machine (34-28).
RAVEN & RUNE TAVERN
WEDNESDAY 5:30 LEAGUE
The 5:30 teams put up record-breaking numbers on offense, nearly shattering the scoreboards. It was Chris Maggio and Mike Latore Jr. who got the stones rolling. Head for the Mountains ambushed J-1 Auto (51-47) and 12 Ounce Curls (40-37).
Matt Beebe backpacked We’ve Got the Stones to a perfect evening with style, (43-34) and (45-38) topping Curl Jam and Golfers on Ice.
Mike Dietrich and Adam Irgang provided a nice one-two punch for Legion of Broom. After writing off Curl Jam (35-31), they dismantled MARKSMEN (47-22).
John Pinciaro shot lights out against On The Rocks (53-32), 12 Ounce Curls got it done.
Michelle Blair and On The Rocks were no match for J-1 Auto (43-36).
Golfers on Ice squeaked by Stone Cold Maidens (38-37) as Tom English translated his game from the fairways to the ice with ease.
MARKSMEN took Stone Cold Maidens to an extra frame, but Kristy Kathman waved goodbye with the game-winner (35-32).
RAVEN & RUNE TAVERN
WEDNESDAY 6:30 LEAGUE
The Brush Offs have set the tone early, looking to establish the standard yet again. Steve Shelters and Jenn Swanson put together good-looking wins over Curls Gone Wild (40-30) and Margarita Madness (46-39).
Kait Benish single-handedly guided Curling Me Softly to a perfect start. After rolling past In the House (42-28), they fended off The Ice Men (20-19).
Glen Wilcock and Perfect Stones proved to be title contenders after two games. They showed poise under pressure against 12 oz. Curlers (33-32) and Smokin Rocks (28-20).
Sue Comella and Margarita Madness pulled off a nailbiter with Team No Names (29-25).
Cade Egan and Team No Names rallied the next time out versus Stuart Tool & Dye (40-25).
Dylan Matteson uplifted 12 oz. Curlers past Rhodewell 34-33.
Jim Panebianco and In The House said goodnight to Ice Ice Baby (38-23).
Casey Digiolarmo constructed a solid performance for Stuart Tool & Die in their (32-25) conquest of Got Stones.
Adam Paterniti called his own number for Got Stones as they wrote off Rhodewell (35-21).
Curls Gone Wild prevailed against Ice Ice Baby (22-20) thanks to Steve Ryberg.
Mike Nygren and The Ice Men held on in another trench battle with Smokin Rocks (22-20).
RAVEN & RUNE TAVERN
WEDNESDAY 7:30 LEAGUE
Barney’s Hoof Trimming could be the team to beat in the nightcap league. Brent and Darren Anderson combined forces to defeat The Flintstones (43-40) and Ice-o-topes (38-37).
Tim Hallquist put QUEST in that same conversation as the only other 2-0 unit to start. After shutting down HCH Interiors (28-11) they squeaked by Curl Jam (29-28).
Marty Richau and The Flintstones looked unstoppable in their (41-24) win over Sheet Faced. Stones & Cones witnessed Christine Silzle catch fire at the end against Ice-o-topes (47-34).
Beth Hagglund and Haggy’s 4 Below Hatchers got the best of Stones & Cones (31-29).
Randy Lord and Hillbilly Sliders had no issues with HCH Interiors (36-20).
Rachel Rollman corralled Sheet Faced and navigated her squad to a (35-32) take down of Haggy’s 4 Below Hatchers.
Todd Singleton and Curl Jam defeated Hillbilly Sliders in a (27-26) defensive battle to close out the week.
RYAN DEPPAS/LEGEND GROUP FRIDAY 4:30 LEAGUE
2 Curls and a Cup started off right where they left off, with their winning ways, with two convincing wins over Tracy’s Dog (44-42) and Cold Beer Here (43-36) behind strong play from captain Zach Muntz.
Andy and Sophie Horner teamed up to bring home two wins for Curl Jam, as they defeated Sweeping Beauties (31-29) and Ba Na Ma Na (30-26).
Sweeping Beauties bounced back in their second game, as they slipped by Frost Bitten Twice Shy (24-21), as the veteran Chuck Ludwig and rookie Karen Tordella led the way.
Frost Bitten opened up their night, by besting Ba Na Ma Na (34-27), as Jodi Smith and Buddy Degnan showed off their curling prowess.
Tracy’s Dog upended Lions & Bears (46-24) with Nick Lucas steadying the ship in their second game.
Bruce Moore and Bill Lawson threw up some big numbers as Cold Beer Here zipped the Lions & Bears (50-34).
