Chase Bonta found the end zone on the first offensive play of Friday night’s Class AA football game at Strider Field.

The Jamestown senior was only getting started.

All told, the running back/linebacker rushed for 138 yards on eight carries — four of them for touchdowns; returned an interception for a TD; and blocked a punt that led to yet another score to send the Red & Green to a dominant 57-14 victory over Lockport.

The win improved Jamestown’s record to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in the division, while the Lions dropped to 1-7 and 1-5. The two teams will meet again next Friday, back at Strider Field, in a Section VI first-round playoff game.

“We’re starting to play our best football and our most confident (football),” Jamestown head coach Tom Langworthy said. “The message to our guys this week is you earn confidence, you don’t just get it. … We’ve come off a couple wins where we’re starting to catch our stride. I thought we played well in all three phases.”

Judging from the results on a cold night on Martin Road, the Red & Green will be heavily favored again next week.

Bonta’s touchdown runs were from 39, 6, 22 and 37 yards; quarterback Jackson Grey connected with Alaric Richards on a 69-yard scoring strike; Richards added a 3-yard TD plunge; and Jimmy Graves chipped in a 1-yard scoring plunge

And all that happened before halftime.

With Jamestown armed with a 57-0 lead, the third and fourth quarters were played with a running clock.

The Lions only touchdowns came on their final two possessions, as Asziah Watson and Cole Anderson led Jamestown’s defensive dominance with eight and seven tackles, respectively.

“I think these guys understand that we’re at the end of the season,” Langworthy said. “Whether it’s in the first week of the playoffs or if it’s state championship weekend, time is limited. There’s no replacing high school football with your buddies. … These guys are like brothers.”

NOTES: Grey completed 3 of 4 passes for 83 yards, with all three completions going to Richards, who also had 89 yards rushing on nine carries. … Evan Maloney connected on all five of his point-after kicks. … Jericho Thagard and Eligh DeLeon both had 2-point conversion runs. … The Lions’ touchdowns came on Trevon McCutcheon’s 2-yard run and Charles Johnson III’s 2-yard pass from Scott Stowe late in the final period.
