CCAA Ousted At Sectionals
WILLIAMSVILLE — All six Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association entries into the Section VI Tennis Championships lost first-round matches Friday at the Miller Tennis Center.
Falconer’s Myla Brainard put up the best fight, going three sets with North Tonawanda’s Nora Davidson. Davidson won the first set 6-3 before Brainard won the second set 7-6 with a 10-8 tiebreaker. But Davidson moved on with a 6-3 win in the third set.
Falconer’s Rachael Swanson won two games in a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Williamsville South’s Mary Finn.
Chautauqua Lake’s Eden Ludwig was swept 6-0, 6-0 by Orchard Park’s Amelia Pericak.
Clarence’s Sofia Banifatemi won the singles title 6-1, 6-1 over Clarence’s Victoria Kiener. In the third-place match to determine a third state representative, Pericak beat Finn 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles play, Frewsburg/Southwestern’s Grace Kutschke and Dani Mincarelli won seven games in a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Lewiston-Porter’s Elizabeth Adamson and Lauren Fura.
Maple Grove’s Meghan Lockwood and Megan McGee lost 6-0, 6-0 to Williamsville East’s Jasmin Nagra and Elisa Prelewicz.
Olean’s Lina Chauhdry and Natalie Snyder lost 6-1, 6-0 to Williamsville East’s Megha Pendyala and Sophia Cong.
Orchard Park’s Mariella Pericak and Adrianna Roberts ended up winning the doubles title 6-1, 6-1 over Nagra and Prelewicz. In the third-place match to determine a third state duo, Clarence’s Julia Mu and Viv Hallam beat Orchard Park’s Sophie Kielbasa and Georgina Marry 6-4, 7-5.
The state championships will take place Monday, Oct. 27 through Wednesday, Oct. 29 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing.
