Frewsburg/Southwestern’s Grace Kutschke and Dani Mincarelli advanced to today’s semifinals with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Maple Grove’s Kate Verdonik and Kamryn Seekings in the second round before topping Fredonia’s Charis LaBarr and Olivia Balch 6-2, 7-5 in the third round.

Maple Grove’s Meghan Lockwood and Megan McGee beat Frewsburg/Southwestern’s Olivia Grey and Bailey Bishop 6-0, 7-5 in the second round before getting the better of Fredonia’s Rosie Manzella and Elizabeth Joy 6-1, 6-2 in the third round.

Olean’s Lina Chauhdry and Natalie Snyder bettered Fredonia’s Amelia Way and Hazel Daly-Griffen 6-1, 6-0 in the third round and Frewsburg/Southwestern’s Lily Harvey and Makenzie Lobb 6-2, 6-1 in the third round.

The bottom of the bracket lasted nearly eight hours.

Chautauqua Lake’s Josie Dawson and Cameron Mackey survived a 9-8 first-round win over Frewsburg/Southwestern’s Claire Spielman and Marleigh Stappenbeck with a 7-2 tiebreaker. Dawson and Mackey then met Falconer’s Elena Barie and Lauren Whitmore in the second round and earned the first set 6-4. But Barie and Whitmore battled back for 6-4, 6-3 wins to reach the third round.

In the third round, Barie and Whitmore faced another Chautauqua Lake duo, Taylyn Stanton and Quinn Vaillancourt, and were pushed to three sets again. Stanton and Vaillancourt won the first set 7-5 before Barie and Whitmore advanced with 6-4, 6-4 wins.

Today’s doubles semifinals will feature Kutschke and Mincarelli against Lockwood and McGee as well as Chauhdry and Snyder against Barie and Whitmore.

Today’s singles semifinals, which were determined Wednesday, will feature Falconer’s Myla Brainard against teammate Rachael Swanson as well as Chautauqua Lake’s Eden Ludwig against Fredonia’s Nella Darrell-Sterbak.

The top three singles players and top three doubles teams will advance to the Section VI Championships next Friday and Saturday at the Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville. Today’s action gets underway at 10 a.m.
