Senior Baseball Champions

In a showdown of the Chautauqua Senior Baseball League’s top two teams, the Stuart Tool & Die A’s shut out the Larry’s Cantina Pirates 11-0 at Diethrick Park. The A’s plated three runs in the top of the second inning and never looked back, ultimately winning by the 10-run mercy rule . Travis Butcher went eight strong innings, striking out a playoff-record 19 batters, including the first 11 Pirates he faced, while scattering five hits in a dominating performance. Austin Spicer, who led the A’s at the plate all season as their top hitter, Brian Gunnell and Brandon Shelters all had three hits to lead the A’s 14-hit offensive attack. The A’s also set a new playoff record as they used the 10-run mercy rule on all three opponents they faced in the run to the championship and had a 34-3 run differential. Max Schrantz had two hits to back losing pitcher Jake Horford, who struck out 10. Above is the A’s team photo.
