JCC Men Remain Undefeated On Road With 3-0 Win

ELYRIA, Ohio — The Jamestown Community College men’s soccer team remained perfect on the road with a 3-0 win at Lorain County CC on Sunday.

Jamestown’s offense peppered the Lorain goalkeeper with 45 shots on the day, leading to the trio of goals.

First up for JCC was Jack Morris, giving the Jayhawks the early 1-0 lead.

From there it was newbies to the scoresheet for Jamestown. Mathis Beniache potted his first to give JCC a 2-0 edge, then William-Amaro Correia Gomes scored to make it 3-0 for the road team.

Freshman Casimiro Espeso Gayte and sophomore Shane Bennett continue to lead the way with assists. Gayte’s assist to Beniache was his team-leading seventh; he leads Region 3. Meanwhile, Bennett has a pair in the win, pushing his total to five, which is tied for the second most in the region.

The win moved JCC to 5-2 overall, 4-0 in league play.

Jamestown returns to league action Wednesday when it visits Genesee CC at 4 p.m.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

BATAVIA — It was a day trip to remember for Jamestown Community College volleyball and head coach Cherish Pope, who earned her first career win as bench boss for the Jayhawks on Saturday.

The day at the Genesee pod didn’t start off looking like JCC was going to have a happy bus ride home from Batavia, with Jamestown falling to the home Panthers 3-0, but the Jayhawks did push one of the better teams in Region 3 to a 26-24 second set, giving the ladies some confidence as they entered their second matchup with SUNY Broome.

In the battle with Broome, Jamestown fell behind 2-0 before rallying. The Jayhawks won the third set 25-22 and the fourth 25-17 to set up a decisive fifth set.

JCC was able to secure the victory, 15-13, in a defensive battle.

“(Nazariah Neal) was incredible on defense,” Pope said. “She kept us in the game a lot.”

That defense and grit from Jamestown led to Pope’s first career victory and put JCC at 1-1 in Region 3 action.

Next up for the Jayhawks is another regional pod as they visit Onondaga CC to take on the Lazers and Corning CC this coming Sunday.
