The Jamestown Community College hockey team kept fans on the edge of their seats Saturday night in a 7-6 win over Canisius University at Northwest Arena.
JCC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Noah Kellogg and Cooper Bergman with assists by Garret Greaves and Christian Greaves, respectively.
After that, it appeared to be a long night at the office for the Jayhawks, allowing Canisius to score the next six goals and finding themselves in a 6-2 hole.
From that point, it was all Jayhawks.
JCC was able to even the score at 6-6 with three minutes remaining in the third period. The tying goal came from Garret Greaves, getting an assist from Kellogg. Before Greaves was able to net the equalizer, Jamestown saw Christian Greaves, Cooper Shelters and Coleson Barber light the lamp for the tie with just 180 seconds to play.

The game stayed knotted up until 47 seconds remained; that’s when Kellogg was able to get one-on-one with the Griffins’ goalie, and he didn’t miss the slap shot from out front. The crowd at Northwest Arena exploded as they saw a comeback for the ages completed by the Jayhawks.
This win moved JCC to 2-0 on the year.
Jamestown faces its first road test on Friday at 7 p.m. when it visits Penn State-Behrend.
The next Jayhawks home game is set for Saturday at 7 p.m. when SUNY Geneseo visits Northwest Arena.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
The Jamestown Community College volleyball team knew it faced a tough test as it welcomed top-ranked Hudson Valley Community College to town as their opening opponent in the JCC home pod.
HVCC quickly showed why it is 12-0 on the year, with quick 25-9 and 25-8 set wins. JCC battled back in the third set, taking a 20-19 lead before the Vikings went on to win 25-21.
That loss knocks the Jayhawks down to 2-8 on the season.
JCC didn’t have time to lick its wounds before it took the court in against SUNY Adirondack.
It was a tight battle in each set, but again JCC fell 3-0, losing the sets 25-20, 25-19 and 25-17.
Jamestown now sits at 2-9 on the year.
The Jayhawks are right back on the home court today at 6 p.m. when Monroe Community County visits Jamestown.
CROSS COUNTRY
ROCHESTER — The Jamestown Community College cross country teams made the trip up to Roberts Wesleyan University for the Harry Anderson Invitational on Saturday for what is one of the largest invitationals they will compete at, against several NCAA Division I and II programs.
In the men’s race, Carson Dunn ran the 8K in 33:29, placing 226th out of 249. The sophomore shed 14 seconds off of his personal-best time, and cut 30 seconds faster than he ran on this course last year.
On the women’s side, Arryanna Bardo ran the 5K in 25:03, placing 160 out of 183. That was more than a two-minute improvement from last week, which was her first ever meet.
Aubrey MacDonald made her collegiate racing debut running the 5K in 26:53, placing 168 out of 183.
“All three runners continue to make improvements and we look forward to next week’s meet in Fredonia,” said head coach Darion Gregory.
The runners take the course at Fredonia State on Saturday.
