Area XC Teams Shine At Red Dragon Invite

BEMUS POINT — Area cross country programs performed quite well at the Red Dragon Invitational on Saturday on the 5K layout at Bemus Point Golf Course.

Individually, Southwestern’s Emma Lewis captured the Large School girls race, posting a time of 18:37.61, more than a minute faster than Charlotte Winnicki of Lancaster, while Evalyn Fessel of Maple Grove was the winner in the Small School girls race with a 21:36.32 clocking to outpace Elexa Duggan of Allegany-Limestone.

In team results, Jamestown and Maple Grove claimed the Large School boys and Small School girls titles, respectively.

The Red & Green boys, led by Clevon Wofford’s seventh place, finished with 82 points, two better than second-place Harbor Creek; four better than third-place Maple Grove; and eight better than fourth-place Clarence. The top local individual was the Red Dragons’ Ethan Verbosky, who finished second to Carson Zuba of Lancaster.

The Maple Grove girls easily won the Small School team title with 43 points. St. Mary’s of Lancaster was second with 94 and Frewsburg was third with 104.

From south of the border, the Eisenhower girls placed fifth among Small Schools with 134 points, while the Knights’ boys team finished second with 51 points.

Isabelle Grosch placed fifth to pace the Eisenhower girls, while Parker McBride finished 10th to lead the Eisenhower boys.
