Nicholas Volpe threw five innings of shutout ball, allowing two hits while striking out six and walking one. A.J. Henry tossed the final two innings, allowing one hit while striking out two.

After Volpe struck out the side in the bottom of the first inning, Tallahassee gave its right-hander the only run of support he would need in the top of the second. Henry led off with a walk before Bryce Bedonie singled and Ethan Sapiera was hit by a pitch with one out. With the bases loaded, Dylan Daughtry hit an RBI infield single.

Stamford starter Michael Nguyen followed with a strikeout and a popout to third base to escape the inning with no further damage.

GAME 15

EAGLE PASS, TEXAS 5, PRICE, UTAH 4

Eagle Pass, Texas put itself into the driver’s seat of the American Division with a third straight victory, but this time it didn’t come easy.

Adding an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning, Eagle Pass led Price, Utah 5-2 and it turned out to be a crucial run.

Down to the final out with two runners on, Price’s Jace Bozone hammered a triple to pull the Pacific Southwest Region champions within one run, scoring both Mason Powell and Jaxton Smith.

However, that was as far as Bozone would get as Eagle Pass pitcher D’Andre Daniel induced another pop fly to hang on for the 5-4 victory.

Eagle Pass established its lead in the early going, scoring three runs in the second and another in the third. Julian Palacios highlighted the third inning with a two RBI single and Brandon Esquival hit an RBI single. Then, in the third inning, Mason Villareal drove home Jesus Calderon with a two-out single to go up 3-1.

Austin Leonard came on in relief and Price slowed the Eagle Pass bats after that point.

However, Price did not start finding any more offense until Eagle Pass starter Julian De Hoyos left the game. Rigdon Rhoten hit a standup double in the bottom of the sixth and Jacen Cowley scratched a run back with a two-out RBI single.

Powell doubled to start the seventh and Bosone added a triple, but Eagle Pass closed the door to hold the top spot in the American Division.

The Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game for Eagle Pass was Joshua Montes. For Price, Bozone was the recipient of the Tellefsen award.

If Eagle Pass (3-0) can add another victory over Centennial, Colorado today at 4:30 p.m., then it will get a day off heading into the semifinals on Friday. Price (2-1) wraps up pool play at 7 tonight against the host team and already has a spot in the elimination bracket clinched, but will just await final seeding.

GAME 16

PORT ANGELES, WASHINGTON 12, AUSTRALIA 6

Both Port Angeles, Washington and Australia were seeking their first victory of the tournament and halfway through four innings both sides were tied 3-3.

Then the errors came.

Australia was hoping to finish its trip with a victory, but in the top of the fifth inning the game got away from the Aussies. Port Angeles scored six runs in the frame, including a bases-clearing three-run error that put the deficit at 9-3.

Australia (0-4) did its best to rally back from that by plating three runs the following frame, but the big error proved too much to overcome.

Port Angeles added another three runs in the top of the seventh, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Gavin Doyle and it officially put the game too far out of reach.

The Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game for Port Angeles was Kyler Williams and Australia’s selection was Kye Wilson.

Port Angeles (1-2) still has hopes to reach the elimination bracket, but will need some help from Tallahassee, Florida and also posting a victory in its own right against Stamford, Connecticut at 1:30 p.m. today.

Starting at $3.50/week.
