Travel League Visits Downing Golf Course
HARBORCREEK, Pa. — The Wednesday Travel League played a wet, rainy event at Downing Golf Course.
Josh Hilliker broke his own league course record of 72 by one stroke, shooting a 1-under par 71. He earned his 55th career tour victory with the low round in the league this season. Robert Calph finished second with 77 and Ed Tofil was third with 81. Hilliker led both the front (36) and back (35) nines. Calph made par on all nine holes on the back nine for a 36.
Tom Sacilowski was the B Flight winner. In the C Flight, Pat Weaver won on the second tiebreaker hole over Tom Destro. The low round by a senior was shot by Jack Hood. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Joe Bifaro.
Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Hilliker (Nos. 1, 6, 10 and 13), Tofil (Nos. 3 and 7), and Calph (Nos. 4 and 12); B Flight — Pete Pinkoski (No. 1), Sacilowski (No. 4), Jeff Marsowicz (No. 5), Ron Szach (No. 16) and Carter Crabtree (No. 18); C Flight — Destro (Nos. 1 and 14), Frank Benamati (No. 5), Ryan Tofil (Nos. 7, 10 and 12), Bob Kujawa (No. 17) and Gary Haase (No. 18).
Closest to the pin were: Jim Ellman Sr. (No. 5), Calph (No. 8), Dennis Gawronski Sr. (No. 11), and Phil Hopkins (No. 15). Winners of the Steeplechase were: Hilliker (A Flight), Dave Franklin (B) and Weaver (C).
