Westfield/Brocton, Dunkirk Advance To Title Game

DUNKIRK — Naisaih Rodriguez started off his senior year in style for the Dunkirk Marauders on Friday night.

Rodriguez completed a first-half hat trick to lead the Marauders to a 4-1 win over Cassadaga Valley/Falconer in the opening round of the Dunkirk Championship Cup at Karl Hoeppner Field.

Rodriguez scored from Isiah Durling, Brady Dobek and Victor Millan as the Marauders built a 3-0 first-half lead.

After Clayton Evans scored from Nathyn Gilbert in the 54th minute for the Golden Cougars,

Dunkirk’s Lucas Felt scored unassisted to restore the hosts’ three-goal lead.

Brendan Worczak made one save for the Marauders and Donny Delaney made 12 saves for Cassadaga Valley/Falconer.

Dunkirk will take on Westfield/Brocton in today’s championship game at noon.

POWERS WOLVERINES

DUNKIRK — Braylon Swanson netted a hat trick as Westfield/Brocton beat Cattaraugus-Little Valley 8-1 in the first round of the Dunkirk Championship Cup.

Parker Gambino opened the scoring for the Wolverines in the first minute before Swanson scored from Anthony Gatto in both the third and sixth minutes.

Caleb Stoughton scored from Gatto in the ninth minute and Christian Morello scored from Gatto in the 25th minute before Swanson finished his hat trick from Banner Bundy in the 31st minute.

After halftime, Ayden Reese scored from Noah Tuah in the 49th minute and Michael Cettell scored from Bundy in the 59th minute.

The Timberwolves, who will take on Cassadaga Valley/Falconer in today’s 10 a.m. consolation game, broke up the clean sheet in the 70th minute when Aiden Kapsiak scored from Kayden McCune.

Nolan Anderson and Reese split three saves in net for Westfield/Brocton.

MAYS HAS HUGE DAY

SALAMANCA — Nate Mays had six goals and an assist to lead Silver Creek/Forestville past Salamanca 8-3 in nonleague action.

Mays scored from Ryan Cook in the eighth and 23rd minutes, from Anthony Cornwall in the 26th and 78th minutes, and unassisted in the 64th and 76th minutes.

Cornwall added a goal from Alexander Lucas in the 34th minute and Cook scored from Mays in the 59th minute.

Aaron Cook made 10 saves in net for Silver Creek/Forestville.

Darren Hayes scored from Cayden Lafferty in the 60th minute while Easton Chudy added unassisted goals in the 75th and 79th minutes for the Warriors. Carter Light made 11 saves for Salamanca.
