Pool Play Starts Next Saturday At Diethrick Park

The field is set for the Babe Ruth 13-Year-Old World Series, which begins next week at Diethrick Park.

This year’s host team will be coached by Jose Cruz along with assistants Tim Cowan, Michael Navarro and Andy Tobias.

The team traveling the farthest to this year’s World Series is also the team that locked up a spot first: a team from Australia — the Aussie Drop Bears.

Competing in the American Division alongside Jamestown will be Stevens Point, Wisconsin; Centennial, Colorado; Eagle Pass, Texas; and Price, Utah.

Stevens Point won the Ohio Valley Region in Reedsburg, Wisconsin.

Centennial won the Midwest Plains Region in Wichita, Kansas, beating Semo (Mo.) in the championship game.

Eagle Pass claimed the Southwest Region title at the University of Louisiana Monroe’s Lou St. Amant Field. Eagle Pass went 2-1 in pool play and earned the No. 1 seed for the semifinals. There, Eagle Pass beat Westside (Ala.) 19-4 and then topped Gulf Coast (Ala.) 12-4 in the championship game.

Then, a day later, Broomall-Newtown rallied against the same Gibbsboro/Voorhees team to win 4-3 and clinch its trip to Jamestown.

Tallahassee-Leon won the Southeast Region with a perfect 6-0 record in Stafford, Virginia, capping its run with a 4-0 win over Greenville (N.C.). Tallahassee-Leon allowed just seven runs in four pool-play games, then beat Stafford (Va.) 5-0 in the semifinals before its shutout in the title game.
