TROY — Hollywood couldn’t write a better script to start the 2025 men’s soccer season for Jamestown Community College.
The Jayhawks opened 2-0 with a 6-1 win over SUNY Adirondack and a 3-2 buzzer-beater against Hudson Valley Community College over the weekend.
JCC opened its season in brilliant fashion against Adirondack, taking an early 1-0 lead when Braidan Govan scored less than two minutes into the contest. The sophomore made it a two-goal lead in the 15th minute. His pair of tallies came on assists from Liam Doyle and Luca Marini, respectively.
The advantage was cut in half in the 28th minute, but JCC opened the second half strong with Marini and Doyle going from the assisters to the scorers to give the Jayhawks a 4-1 edge.
Jamestown tacked on a pair of goals later in the half when Casimiro Espeso Gayt buried an assist from Shane Bennett. Bennett then scored with 12 minutes remaining to give us our final of 6-1. A perfect way to start a weekend road trip.
The opening day win was quickly outdone on Sunday with JCC winning 3-2 in the most dramatic fashion possible over Hudson Valley Community College.
First, JCC trailed for the first time of the season, but less than 30 seconds after the Vikings took the lead, it was Govan once again finding the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1 off a pass from Bennett.
Govan was once again the hero as he finished an assist from Espeso to give the green and gold a 2-1 lead going to the break.
HVCC knotted the game up with just over five minutes to play before we had what could go down as the play of the year.
On a set piece from near the corner, Espeso placed the ball perfectly on net for Shane Bennett to fly in and bury the game-winning header with just 6 seconds left on the clock.
The sophomore sent JCC home with the 3-2 win and an unblemished weekend.
JCC opens its home schedule on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. when Division I Mercyhurst University brings a squad to Chautauqua County for a non-conference tilt.
