Calph Wins Frank Borowski Invitational In Wednesday Travel League At Pennhills Club
BRADFORD, Pa. — The Wednesday Travel League held its fourth major of the season, “The Frank Borowski Invitational,” in honor of its league founder, at Pennhills Club.
Robert Calph was the overall winner, posting the low round of 77, becoming just the second league golfer (Tony Nicosia) to win 10 majors. Ed Tofil finished second with 79 and Josh Hilliker was third with 81. Tofil led the front nine with 39. Calph and Hilliker led the back nine with 37s. The victory marked Calph’s second Frank Borowski Invitational title and also his second major victory of the season.
Tim Walawender was the B Flight champion. In the C Flight, a three-way tiebreaker gave Ken Kaus the title over Pat Weaver and Ron Szach — who also shot the low round by a senior. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Joe Bifaro.
For the second straight week, Tom Sacilowski finished in a tie with his 12-year-old grandson Carter Crabtree. After losing on a tiebreaker last week, Crabtree evened the score this week, defeating his grandfather on the first tiebreaker hole and finishing an impressive 13th place overall.
