Bob Winner Heading To Section VI Hall Of Fame
A longtime area high school basketball coach and athletics administrator will be one of the nine newest members of the Section VI Hall of Fame later this year.
Bob Winner, who was the boys basketball coach at Clymer Central School for more than three decades, will be enshrined during the induction ceremony on Dec. 4 at The Columns Banquets in Elma. Joining him in the Class of 2025 are Damone Brown (athlete, Seneca High School); Caitlin Ciarfella Attfield (athlete, Niagara Wheatfield); Paul Gagliardi (official, Orchard Park); Corrin Genovese (athlete, Williamsville North); Brett Kern (athlete, Grand Island); the late Robert A. Marafino (coach, Kenmore-Tonawanda); Bob Rosen (coach, Williamsville North); and Tim Winn (athlete, LaSalle-Niagara Falls).
Winner’s 34-year tenure as the Pirates’ hoops coach included seven league championships; four sectional titles; and an overall record of 407-267. His 1972-73 team, which claimed league and sectional crowns, was unbeaten, finishing 20-0.
Off the court, Winner served the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association as a member of its Executive Committee, basketball league chairman, Section VI representative, as well as other committees within the organization. Winner also served the section for 16 years as a member of its Athletic Council, Finance Committee and the Basketball Committee.
Winner’s contributions earned him a Western Zone award from the New York State Council of Administrators for Health, Physical Education and Recreation in 1984; and an award from the New York State Athletic Administrators Association in 1993.
The Section VI Hall of Fame was established to honor and recognize those, within its organization, who excelled in their roles as athletes, administrators, coaches, officials or contributors who have provided meritorious service.
