Hilliker’s 74 Paces Wed. Travel League During ‘Shark Week’

IRVING — The Wednesday Travel League celebrated “Shark Week” with a shark-themed event at Rose Brook Golf Club.

In a tribute to the movie “Jaws” and it’s 50th anniversary, golfers were informed prior to teeing off that “The Beaches are Closed.” Any shot that landed in a sand trap was allowed a free drop out of the trap, no closer to the hole.

Josh Hilliker shot a new league course record with an even-par 72, breaking the previous record of 74, held by Robert Calph. Ed Tofil finished second with 75, Jeff Nelson was third with 76 and Joe Michalski shot 79. Playing as an amateur, 12-year-old Carter Crabtree shot 85 to tie for eighth place overall. Tofil and Nelson led the front nine with 38s and Hilliker led the back nine with a 2-under par 33.

Hilliker won the “Great White Shark” A Flight, Dave Franklin won the “Tiger Shark” B Flight and Pat Weaver won the “Hammerhead Shark” C Flight. The low round by a senior was shot by Tony Destro. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioners Award was Gary Hazelton.
