Bremner, Pencek Earn Weekly Recognition

NEW HARTFORD — Despite just a 3-3 team record a week ago, a pair of Jamestown Tarp Skunks have swept the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League’s West Division awards.

Lincoln Memorial University product Christian Pencek was named the Pitcher of the Week while Canisius University’s Justin Bremner was named the Player of the Week.

Pencek threw nine scoreless innings for the Tarp Skunks. He now has a 0.77 ERA and a .940 WHIP in 11 2/3 innings on the season.

Last Tuesday, he struck out two without allowing an earned run against Niagara Falls. Then, on Saturday, the right-hander allowed six hits over eight scoreless frames while striking out five and walking one against Batavia.

Bremner had 12 hits and 17 total bases last week, including two doubles and a home run while driving in 11 runs over six games.

Bremner had four multi-hit games during the week, including a 3-for-6 day when he doubled and drove in four runs against Newark. Bremner also stole three bases and scored three times.

In the East Division, Texas A&M’s Houston Tomlinson was named the Pitcher of the Week after tossing eight innings of one-run ball for the Boonville Lumberjacks. He allowed just three hits while striking out four in a 2-1 victory over Utica.

Tomlinson is now 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA on the season, striking out seven in 12 innings.

Florida Atlantic University’s Jayden Harriel was named the Player of the Week after collecting seven hits and scoring five runs in five games for the Amsterdam Mohawks. He started off the week with three runs scored and a stolen base in Amsterdam’s 12-11 win over Glens Falls. He drove in a pair of runs in a 14-4 victory over Oneonta.

For the season, Harriel is batting .409 with 16 RBIs and 15 runs scored.
