Where Are They Now?

Lukas Forbes was a fine basketball player during his days at Dunkirk High School.
In fact, during his senior year with the Marauders (1989-90), he was selected a first-team Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association and Post-Journal all-star after averaging 15.6 points, 3.2 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game.
Success followed him after graduation, too, as he spent the next four years at the United States Military Academy at West Point, eight years in the Army and Army reserves, and, according to his LinkedIn profile, the last 20-plus years as Western Kentucky University’s department chairman of the marketing area and the director of the WKU Center for Professional Selling.
Forbes and wife Elizabeth are also very proud parents these days.
Their son, Patrick, is the No. 1 pitcher at the University of Louisville, which is currently playing in the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. The Cardinals, who are 41-23 on the season, are coming off an 8-3 victory over Arizona on Sunday and will meet Oregon State at 2 p.m. today in a losers’ bracket game.
By any measure, Patrick has been a main cog in getting Louisville to Omaha.
Although he received a no-decision in a 4-3 loss to Oregon State last Friday, the 6-foot-3, 220-pound right-hander pitched well, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out 10 and walking one in 5 1/3 innings.
For the season, the junior has made 15 appearances — all starts — and owns a 4-2 record. In 71 1/3 innings, he has allowed 59 hits, struck out 117 and walked 34. His ERA is 4.42. In 2024, he was a member of the USA Collegiate National Team and a member of the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
At Bowling Green High School, he lettered four years in baseball, highlighted by being named Mr. Baseball in Kentucky in 2022. Rated as the No. 1 shortstop and No. 1 overall player in Kentucky, he was ranked the No. 53 shortstop in the nation by Perfect Game and was a MaxPreps First-Team All-American.
