Jayhawks Excited To Compete In Their Own Backyard
CHAUTAUQUA — Jamestown Community College plays host to the 2025 Men’s and Women’s NJCAA Division III Golf National Championships this week at Chautauqua Golf Club.
This marks the 26th time Jamestown has hosted the event, dating back to 2000. JCC will welcome 108 student-athletes representing 25 teams from 12 states to Jamestown for the weeklong event. While teams will come from as far as Wisconsin and Georgia, for the boys in green and gold, it’s an “absolutely insane” opportunity to showcase their skills and the region on the national stage.
“I am super excited to have nationals at our home course, and I’m most excited to play in this massive tournament and see all my friends from other colleges that I’ve made over the season,” said JCC freshman and Jamestown native Cole Johnson. “It’s super cool to have an event like this so close to me, especially since I know that there are kids and schools coming from all over our country. I hope that I get to meet some new people and have just a really fun week.”
While Cole Johnson has a lifetime of experience playing in Western New York, a pair of his international teammates are getting to show off Chautauqua to the nation for the first time.
“It’s amazing; it’s one of those things where we stay hidden for half of the year and then come out with a national standard course in early June. It’s the one thing that all JCC sports teams have in common: they all tend to show up just at the right time,” said Irishman Dan Towell.
“I like the idea of nationals being held by JCC. It shines a light on how great of a place this all is,” mentioned South African Zach Johnson.
Regardless of where the Jayhawks are from, they all agree this is a special opportunity not just in their golfing lives, but it could be a once-in-a-lifetime week.
“I’m pretty excited. I’m looking forward to playing a four-day golf tournament at the same venue, hopefully with some different conditions to add to the experience, and of course it makes it 100 times better when it’s our home course. Home advantage in all sports is a massive thing,” said Towell.
“I am very excited to play our home course and to see how the other teams play the course,” added Zach Johnson.
“It feels really cool to have people watching us play in our little town, and I’m hoping that me, Zach, and Dan do well enough for them to actually watch us,” smiled Cole Johnson.
Whether they come from a few miles away or several thousand miles away, the Jayhawks look to put on a good show for all who come to Chautauqua Golf Club this week.
