Huge First Inning Sends Batavia Past Tarp Skunks

BATAVIA — Jamestown jumped out to an early lead Friday night against Batavia in Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League action at Dwyer Stadium.

It was all downhill after that.

The Muckdogs shook off a 2-0 deficit after half an inning, erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the first and cruised to an 18-8 victory before 2,409 fans.

Batavia (10-5) collected 14 hits off six Tarp Skunks’ pitchers. Brayden Horton (double) had three hits and three RBIs; Tyler Castrataro had two doubles and four RBIs; Braedon Reina, Travis Hammond and Caleb Walker each had two hits; and Jackson Inman and James Bolton drove in three runs apiece.

Jakob Haynes (double) had two hits, and Nathan Borchardt and Ty Lagoni both had doubles for Jamestown (7-7), which saw its two-game winning streak snapped.

Luc Rising was the winning pitcher for the Muckdogs, one of three Batavia hurlers.

Jack Bracken (0-1), one of six Tarp Skunks pitchers, took the loss. He allowed seven runs — four of them earned — and surrendered three hits and two walks without retiring a batter in the first inning.

Among local players, Blake Herman (Gowanda) was 1-for-3 and drove in a run. Jameson Walsh (Lakewood) pitched a third of an inning, struck out one and walked two. He threw 15 pitches.

The Tarp Skunks return to action at 6:30 tonight when they entertain Batavia at Diethrick Park.

Starting at $3.50/week.
