Gowanda’s run to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class C semifinals has garnered the Panthers multiple postseason accolades.
Senior pitcher/shortstop/catcher Blake Herman was named the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 3 Player of the Year while three of his teammates were named to the league’s first team.
In league play, Herman hit .641 with five doubles, three triples, four home runs, 22 RBIs and 34 runs scored while also dominating on the mound to the tune of a 5-0 record with a 1.21 earned run average and 47 strikeouts while walking just 15.
Gowanda junior shortstop/pitcher Carter Capozzi, sophomore Kyan Austin and sophomore Jayden Fish were also named to the first team.
Capozzi hit .361 with five doubles, 15 RBIs and a .982 fielding percentage to go along with a 3-1 record with a 1.68 ERA, 37 strikeouts and four walks.

Austin hit .378 with 15 RBIs and 15 runs scored and 11 stolen bases. Fish hit .385 with 16 hits and 14 RBIs.
Franklinville, which finished second in the league, had four players named to the first team. Senior Matthew Spittler hit .397 with 17 RBIs and also pitched to a 1.69 ERA with 54 strikeouts. Senior Bretton Blecha hit .388 with 17 RBIs and pitched to a 3.57 ERA with 46 strikeouts. Senior Isaac Towne hit .308 with 16 RBIs, 19 runs scored and three home runs. Senior Gannon Callhan hit .326 with 11 RBIs, two home runs and 17 runs scored.
Portville, which tied for third place, had two players on the first team. Senior Cole Kessler had a .910 fielding percentage and scored 14 runs while junior Aidan DeFazio hit .270 with 18 runs scored and pitched to a 3.12 ERA.
Falconer, which tied Portville for third place, had just sophomore Erik Stenstrom on the first team. He hit .475 with 14 walks and just two strikeouts while pitching to a 1.09 ERA with 56 strikeouts.
Randolph had two players on the first team. Senior Wyatt Weaver hit .286 with 14 hits while senior David Malone hit .400 with 20 hits and 12 RBIs.
Ellicottville junior Parker John (.359, five doubles, 10 RBIs) and Cattaraugus-Little Valley senior DJ Szata (.289, one home run, 10 stolen bases) rounded out the first team.
Gowanda had senior Logan Ruff (.273, two home runs, 21 RBIs) and senior Brayden Smith (.323, 21 runs, 14 stolen bases, 16 RBIs) named to the second team.
Ellicottville sophomore Rylan Benjamin (2-5 record, 42 strikeouts) and freshman Sawyer Miller (.297, seven runs scored) were named to the second team.
Three Randolph players were named to the second team: junior Kevin McElwain (.283, 13 hits), senior Allen Root (.263, 10 hits, 72 putouts) and senior Connor Braley (.233, 10 hits, one home run, 13 stolen bases).
Franklinville sophomore Brady Tatlow (.315, 17 hits, 11 RBIs, 11 runs scored) and junior Trevin Lane (.302, 13 hits, 10 RBIs, 11 runs scored) were also named to the second team.
The final second-team honorees were: Falconer junior Gavin Curtis (3-2 record, 1.20 ERA, 44 strikeout), Portville senior Brady German (2.70 ERA, 30 strikeouts) and Portville senior Braedon Carter (.306, 19 hits, 15 RBIs).
Honorable-mention selections were: Franklinville’s Collin Mooney and Mason Blecha, Gowanda’s Drew Kota, Portville’s Izaya Edmund, North Collins’ Vincent Montaldi, Randolph’s Bryson Pitts and Jackson Marshall, Ellicottville’s Merek Peters, Cattaraugus-Little Valley’s Noah Ulinger and Falconer’s Logan Johnson.
