Dunkirk Boys, Girls 7th At Class A Track
ELMA — Dunkirk senior Johnee Thomas and junior Hanan Mohamad Narvaez both turned in winning performances at the Section VI Class A track and field championships Saturday at Iroquois High School.
Thomas set a Class A meet record on his way to winning the 400-meter dash in 50.19 seconds, more than 2 seconds faster than second-place Logan Stanczewski of Iroquois. Thomas broke the previous record of 50.53 seconds set by Starpoint’s Adam Yacos in 2013.
Mohamad Narvaez won the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 8:01.71, more than 26 seconds faster than second-place Charlotte Tower of Grand Island.
Dunkirk’s boys and girls both turned in seventh-place team finishes.
The Marauders boys were seventh with 32 points as host Iroquois won the Class A team title with 81 points. Kenmore East was second with 79.5 points, followed by third-place Pioneer (56).
The Marauders girls were seventh with 30.25 points as host Iroquois also won the girls Class A team title with 134 points. Kenmore East was second (85.25) and Williamsville East was third (69).
Dunkirk senior Jareese Gaines took second in the high jump at 5 feet, 10 inches.
Eighth-grader Jocelyn Thomas was third in the 400-meter dash (1:04.99).
Junior Liam McQuiggan was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 38 feet, 11.25 inches and senior Jaylen McMichael was fifth at 38 feet, 9.5 inches.
Senior Riley Smith Mallon was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 41 feet, 8 inches and senior Jared Sek was seventh at 39 feet, 3.5 inches.
Junior Yeriel Gutierrez was fifth in the long jump at 19 feet, 1.25 inches.
Eighth-grader Danielle Felt was sixth in the 800 meters (2:46.72).
Eighth-grader Chianti Lopez was sixth in the 200-meter dash (28.38).
Smith Mallon was sixth in the discus with a heave of 112 feet, 10 inches and fellow senior Jared Sek was eighth at 102 feet, 1 inch.
Eighth-grader Leona Crane tied for sixth in the pole vault at 6 feet, 9 inches.
Sophomore Lucas Felt was eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:39.04).
Sophomore Khloe Munson was eighth in the 100-meter dash (13.71).
Dunkirk’s Crane, Lopez, Jocelyn Thomas and Mohamad Narvaez won the 1,600-meter relay in 4:29.41, just less than 2 seconds faster than second-place Williamsville East.
Dunkirk’s Lopez, Jocelyn Thomas, Lauryn McCracken and Munson were fifth in the 400-meter relay (54.34).
Dunkirk’s McQuiggan, Isiah Durling, Javier Battle and Gutierrez were sixth in the 400-meter relay (47.45).
