The Southwestern Central and Chautauqua Lake high school sailing teams competed at Lakewood Beach last Saturday.

Hosted by Chautauqua Lake Community Sailing Foundation, the Spring Fling regatta was the last event of the spring season.

It certainly didn’t feel like Memorial Day weekend with the weather conditions. The temperature was 50 degrees, with 12 knot winds and gusts in the high 20s. Light rains persisted throughout the day. However, the dedicated sailing teams from nine schools pushed through to complete eight races.

Sailing for Southwestern Central were Jack Colburn and Jack Ballard for Team 1; and Nolan Lefler, Annika Hedin and Jack Webb for Team 2.

Team 1 finished fourth overall with three top-three finishes. Team 2 finished fifth overall, also with three top-three finishes.

Sailing for Chautauqua Lake were Gabe Logan and Vivian Watson. This was the sailors’ first event representing their school in a regatta, finishing 11th out of 12 boats with their best race being sixth place.

Starting at $3.50/week.
