Westfield Pulls Away From Chautauqua Lake Late

MAYVILLE — In a game tied 4-4 after five innings, Westfield beat Chautauqua Lake 12-7 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 baseball Tuesday.

Danny Bratton hit an RBI triple in the third inning and a fifth-inning double; Joel Stein had two singles and an RBI; and Mason Baum hit a two-run single in the seventh inning for the Wolverines (3-3, 3-2).

Bratton pitched the first two innings, followed by Tristen Phillips for 4 1/3 innings. Joey Russo got the final two outs. The three pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts and 16 walks in a five-hitter.

Devin Hewes had two singles and an RBI while Ragen Crandall had a two-run single in the first inning for the Eagles (3-5, 2-3).

Hewes, Michael Jauss and Clayton Smith combined for 10 strikeouts and 10 walks in a nine-hitter.

CORNELL TOSSES GEM

BEMUS POINT — Zach Cornell threw a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts and two walks as Maple Grove beat Pine Valley 5-0 in Division 2 action.

Offensively, Gavin Darr had a hit and a run scored; Jake Reinhardt scored twice; Kyle Yohe had a hit and a run scored; Camden Lombardo added a run and an RBI; and Cornell drove in a run for the Red Dragons (2-4, 2-3).

The Panthers fell to 0-7 overall and 0-6 in the league.

FALCONER EDGES PORTVILLE

ALLEGANY — Isaiah Washington went 3 for 4 with a double as Falconer beat Portville 7-6 in Division 3 action.

The Golden Falcons led 3-0 after the first inning on an RBI single from Chase Bianco, a bases-loaded walk to Logan Johnson and a sacrifice fly from Gavin Curtis.

Erik Stenstrom allowed five hits and six runs (four earned) over six innings while striking out 14 and walking four for Falconer (7-0, 6-0).

Anthony Wood went 2 for 4 and Stenstrom walked three times.

Chase Armstrong, Brady German, Mekhi Muhyee, Dylan Chudy and Cole Keesler each had a hit for Portville (2-5, 2-4).

Aidan DeFazio took the loss, striking out three and walking four while allowing seven hits and seven runs (six earned) in four innings.

WEAVER, SHEESLEY SHINE

FREWSBURG — Gavin Weaver tossed a one-hitter and Maddox Sheesley drove in six runs as Frewsburg beat Cassadaga Valley 13-0 in five innings of Division 2 play.

Weaver struck out three and walked three while allowing just a fourth-inning single to Jordan Swanson.

Sheesley hit an RBI single in the first inning, a two-run double in the third inning and a bases-clearing three-run triple in the fourth inning for the Bears (6-1, 6-0). Chase Haglund also walked twice and scored three runs.

The Cougars fell to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the league.

NORTH COLLINS EDGES ELLICOTTVILLE

ELLICOTTVILLE — Vince Montaldi went 3 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs scored to lead North Collins past Ellicottville 7-5 in Division 3 play.

Scott Armbruster, Angelo Fera and Jonathan Rice each chipped in two hits for North Collins (6-4, 5-3), which totaled 12 hits in the game. Zander Miller drove in a pair of runs.

Walter Ebersole tossed six innings of five-hit ball, allowing one run (none earned) while striking out four and walking four for the winners.

Merek Peters went 3 for 4 with two RBIs while Sawyer Miller and Carson Mendell each added a pair of hits for Ellicottville (3-7, 1-6).

Blake Smith threw 6 1/3 innings on the mound and allowed six runs (one earned) while striking out two and walking three in the loss.
