Trojans Kick Off CCAAs With 3 Friday Victories

FALCONER — The Southwestern track and field teams finished undefeated in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association league action and that success has carried into the CCAA Championships beginning on Friday at Bill Race Field.

Southwestern won 3 of the 10 finals that took place on Day 1, including a sweeping effort of the top three in the girls 800 meters. Emma Lewis won the event at 2:18.01, Marlana Cresanti was second at 2:20.58 and Tryniti Card finished third in 2:26.02.

In the field, the Trojans saw Connor Young win the long jump with a leap of 21 feet and 11 inches, just getting past Silver Creek/Forestville’s Nathan Mays at 20-6 and Dunkirk’s Yeriel Gutierrez at 19-4. Then Mikayla Johnson continued her success in shot put with a winning throw of 38-0.50, ahead of Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s Ellyson Baglia at 32-10 and Franklinville’s Elizabeth Price at 31-9.5.

Also winning a pair of events are the Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton Eagles with Jada Cole in the high jump and Walter Lukasiak in discus. Cole leaped a height of 5-2, while Clymer/Sherman/Panama’s Isa Kioko reached 4-10 as did Gowanda’s Isabella DeGolier. Lukasiak won with a throw of 146-3, Southwestern’s Tyler McIntyre reached 141-7 and Henry Eckert took third at 131-10.

Also winning field events on Friday are Randolph senior Caden Inkley in pole vault (15-0) and Allegany-Limestone senior Caitlyn Kellogg (16-4).

Southwestern just missed out on winning the boys 800 as Maple Grove junior Ethan Verbosky claimed the event with a time of 1:58.76. Taking second was Donavin Brown for the Trojans at 1:59.05 and West Valley’s Jack Tharnish was right behind him at 1:59.41.

The boys 3,200 was won by Frewsburg senior Cody Kent at 10:05.90, just ahead of Gowanda’s Chase Bolen (10:08.57) and Allegany-Limestone’s Nolan Wilczewski (10:17.89). Salamanca’s Ryanna Brady won the girls 3,000 at 11:06.86, while West Valley’s Olivia Harmony (11:09.35) took second and Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton’s Meredith Lendt (11:24.28) was third.

Action picks back up again this morning at 10 with the remaining field events of girls discus, boys shot put, girls pole vault, boys high jump and both triple jumps. The first track event will begin at the same time with the 3,200 relay starting with the girls and then the boys.
