Section VI Postseason Arrives
Prequarterfinals Set For Tuesday Evening
Section VI softball playoffs will get underway today with a first-round qualifier in Class B.
No. 17 Medina will travel to No. 16 Salamanca for a 5:30 p.m. tilt.
The winner of the Medina/Salamanca game will be one of a number of prequarterfinals taking place Tuesday.
Locally, in Class B, No. 1 Olmsted will host the Medina/Salamanca winner at McCarthy Park in Buffalo, No. 2 Fredonia will host No. 15 JFK and No. 11 Southwestern will travel to No. 6 Allegany-Limestone.
In Class C on Tuesday, No. 5 Falconer will host No. 12 Frewsburg, No. 6 Randolph will host No. 11 Cattaraugus-Little Valley, No. 8 Gowanda will host No. 9 Maple Grove/Panama and No. 10 Cassadaga Valley will travel to No. 7 Portville.
In a Class A prequarterfinal Tuesday, No. 11 Dunkirk will visit No. 6 Iroquois.
With just three teams in Class AAA, its Tuesday game will be a semifinal featuring No. 3 Jamestown at No. 2 Niagara Falls. The winner of that game will then take on No. 1 Lancaster in a best-of-three final series Thursday, May 22, Wednesday, May 28 and Saturday, May 31.
Class D features just six teams and will kick off postseason play with quarterfinal action Thursday. No. 5 Pine Valley will travel to No. 4 Franklinville and No. 6 North Colllins will travel to Clymer to take on No. 3 Clymer/Sherman.
Quarterfinals in Class AA, Class A, Class B and Class C will take play Thursday at higher seeds.
In Class C, No. 2 Chautauqua Lake awaits the Cassadaga Valley/Portville winner, No. 3 Westfield awaits the Cattaraugus-Little Valley/Randolph winner and No. 4 Silver Creek awaits the Frewsburg/Falconer winner. The Maple Grove/Panama/Gowanda winner will travel to No. 1 Barker.
In Class D, No. 1 Ellicottville awaits the Pine Valley/Franklinville winner and No. 2 Forestville awaits the North Collins/Clymer/Sherman winner.
Championship games will take place Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31.
The Class AA final will be Saturday, May 31 at Grand Island High School at 1:30 p.m., the Class A final will be Saturday, May 31 at Grand Island High School at 4 p.m. and the Class B final will be Saturday, May 31 at Grand Island High School at 6:30 p.m.
The Class C final will be Friday, May 30 at Olean Middle School at 5 p.m. and the Class D final will be Friday, May 30 at Olean Middle School at 7:30 p.m.
