Jamestown Posts Flag Football Victory

Jamestown was tied with Niagara Falls in a scoreless first half, but the Red & Green pulled away after the break for a 19-6 win over Niagara Falls at Strider Field on Tuesday.

The Wolverines did open the third quarter with a touchdown to take the lead, but Jamestown’s Kaylee Leeper scored on a 65-yard touchdown run and Keylianis Torres caught the 2-yard conversion pass to put the hosts on top 7-6.

From there, Jamestown’s defense pitched a shutout and the offense found the end zone on Marcia McIntyre’s 1-yard run and Chryssa Wahl’s 3-yard plunge.

Leeper led the offense with 84 yards on nine carries; McIntyre added 37 yards on five trips and completed 9 of 19 passes for 25 yards and a 1-point conversion pass.

Defensively, Kaymara Strudwick led the way with 10 flag pulls, including four for sacks; JaLeiya Glover chipped in seven flag pulls, including three for sacks and one for loss; Gracie Melquist contributed six flag pulls, one them for a sack; and Leeper added seven flag pulls.

Jamestown returns to action today when it plays Hutch Tech at Johnnie B. Wiley Stadium. Game time is 6 p.m.

FREDONIA PREVAILS

FREDONIA — Sophia Utegg passed for 185 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Madelyn Polhamus, to highlight Fredonia’s 43-6 victory over Silver Creek.

Utegg completed 6 of 11 attempts and also rushed for 66 yards on 10 carries and another TD as the Hillbillies raised their record to 7-1.

Polhamus finished with three receptions for 81 yards; Megan Ivory caught a 65-yard scoring strike; and Natalia DiPalma ran for 61 yards on six attempts.

Defensively, Elizabeth Morris collected 14 flag pulls, five tackles for loss and a sack; Brianna Whitfield picked off four passes and had two pick-6s; Polhamus took another interception back for a score; Mikaela Sciarrino had nine flag pulls and a tackle for loss; and Ivory chipped in three flag pulls, three tackles for loss and a sack.

The Black Knights fell to 0-6.
