FORESTVILLE — The Forestville softball team had the perfect opportunity to clinch its first league title since 2013 on Thursday when it hosted Brocton.
In what was the Bulldogs’ final game of the season, Forestville needed to be perfect to secure the win and senior Megan Gruber was exactly that.
Gruber went the distance for the Hornets and pitched a perfect game with 14 strikeouts securing the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 3 title with a 2-0 victory.
Offense did not come easy for Forestville (11-2, 8-2), but in the second inning Gruber helped her cause when she drew a walk and was put in scoring position with a sacrifice bunt by Madison Christian. Forestville cashed in on that sacrifice with Olivia Valentine knocking an RBI single.
Valentine had more to give in the sixth inning when she drove home Emily Lillie with an RBI double to go up 2-0. Kaylee Adamczak also went 2 for 3 for Forestville.
Gruber finished her first no-hitter in a perfect game the following inning, securing a league title and her 500th career strikeout on the same day. The last perfect game by Forestville was Ryanne Dugan in 2013.
Nevaeh Hebner led Brocton (0-13, 0-10) in the circle with three strikeouts and gave up just six hits.
