Gowanda’s Herman Tosses Five-Inning One-Hitter
GOWANDA — Ellicottville’s Blake Smith led off the game with a single to center field.
That was the last hit Gowanda’s Blake Herman would allow.
The Panthers’ right-hander tossed a five-inning one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and two walks as Gowanda beat the Eagles 13-0 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 3 baseball Friday.
The Panthers led 3-0 after the second inning and 5-0 after the third before an eight-run fourth inning put the game away.
Kyan Austin went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored; Carter Capozzi doubled twice and drove in two runs; Logan Ruff was 2 for 4 with three RBIs; Seth Geiger was 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs; and Herman walked twice and scored twice for Gowanda (8-2, 6-0).
Ellicottville fell to 2-6 overall and 0-5 in the league.
SPARTANS TOP JAMESTOWN
WILLIAMSVILLE — Matthew Urbino and Sam Welgoss tripled during a four-run fifth inning to give Williamsville North a 7-0 lead en route to a 7-1 Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 victory over Jamestown.
Carter Rizzuto hit a solo home run to left field during the bottom of the fifth for Jamestown’s lone run.
Caleb Okulewicz finished with three singles and AJ Weissenburg added a triple for the Spartans (6-5, 5-3).
Bonta, Carter Rizzuto and Blake Smith Jr. had singles for the Red & Green (1-7, 0-6). Rizzuto struck out seven and walked one in six innings on the mound before Kyle Falkowski struck out two and walked one in the final inning.
