Fredonia’s Offense Has Big Day Against Jamestown

FREDONIA — Danielle Palisin tossed a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and did not walk a batter as Fredonia shut out Jamestown 10-0 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 softball Monday.

The Hillbillies (5-3, 3-0) jumped ahead 2-0 in the second inning as Callie Draggett singled, Anna Delcamp hit an RBI double and Cassie Cramer hit an RBI double.

In the third inning, Leah Marsh reached on an error to open the inning. Jenna Fryberger hit a two-out RBI single before Bella Buckley walked. Draggett then hit a two-run double and Delcamp hit an RBI single.

Fredonia scored its final four runs in the fourth inning. Cramer opened the frame with a double and moved to third on a single by Rhianna Benner. Marsh then reached on an error that plated a run, Naomi Muck hit a two-run single and Palisin hit a sacrifice fly.

Delcamp finished 3 for 3 with two doubles, Cramer was 2 for 3 with two doubles, Draggett was 2 for 3 with a double, Palisin was 2 for 3 with a triple and Fryberger was 2 for 4.

Kaylee Keppel broke up Palisin’s no-hit bid with a leadoff single in the fifth inning. Chloe Degnan also singled in the frame to set up first and third with one out, but a groundout and a strikeout ended the inning.

Alyvia Remington led off the seventh with a double for Jamestown’s only other hit.

Keppel struck out one and walked one in the circle for the Red & Green (3-5, 1-3).

Fredonia went 1-2 over the weekend at the 45th annual James “Ace” Morabito Softball Tournament in Binghamton.

The Hillbillies lost 16-3 to Class AA Horseheads, beat Class A Ardsley 9-0 and lost to Class AAA Liverpool 9-6. Horseheads was ranked No. 9 in last week’s New York State Sportswriters Association rankings and Ardsley was No. 19. Fredonia was ranked No. 20 in Class B.

UNBEATEN

GOWANDA — Forestville scored two runs in the first, second and fifth innings en route to a 7-3 Division 3 victory over Gowanda.

Megan Gruber earned the win in the circle with a six-hitter and seven strikeouts.

The Hornets (7-0, 4-0) scored two in the first when Carilene Sliwa walked, stole second and scored on Emily Lillie’s RBI triple. Madison Christian then hit an RBI single.

In the second, Kaylee Adamczak walked and took second on a passed ball before Sliwa reached on an error. After Jade Work singled to load the bases, Lillie hit a two-run double.

In the fifth, Lillie walked and Gruber hit an RBI triple before later scoring on a passed ball.

Forestville’s final run came in the sixth as Work singled, stole second and scored on a Lillie bunt.

Work finished 2 for 4 and Lillie was 2 for 2 with four RBIs.

Addison Kota struck out five and Gracie Eddy struck out two in the circle for the Panthers (5-4, 2-3). Holland Browning was 2 for 3.
