Four Double Winners Send Southwestern To Division 1 Crowns

FALCONER — A quartet of Southwestern athletes continued dominant spring seasons to help the Trojans boys and girls claim Division 1 team titles at the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association track and field championships, which wrapped up Saturday at Bill Race Field.

Ryan Ohl and Connor Young were double winners for the Southwestern boys as they won the Division 1 title with 181 points.

Ohl claimed the 200 meters (23.2) and 400 meters (53.06) while Young captured the long jump (21-11) and triple jump (40-2.5). Leo Kavic also took the shot put (48-2.5) for the Trojans.

On the girls side, Mikayla Johnson and Emma Lewis were double winners as Southwestern’s girls won Division 1 with 205 points.

Johnson won the shot put (38-0.5) and discus (123-1) while Lewis was victorious in the 800 meters (2:18.01) and 1,500 meters (4:39.48). Marlana Cresanti won the 400 meters (59.97) and M’Kenzie Zavala took the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.01) for the Trojans.

Allegany-Limestone won the boys and girls Division 2 titles with 122 points and 163 points, respectively.

Kamil Milliner took the 100 meters (11.43) for the Gators boys team and Caitlyn Kellogg won the long jump (16-4) for the Gators girls team.

In Division 3, Maple Grove won the boys title with 152 points and Clymer/Sherman/Panama won the girls crown with 159 points.

For the Red Dragons boys team, Ethan Verbosky won the 800 meters (1:58.76) and 1,600 meters (4:31.83). Jacob Lewis, Owen Erlandson, Joshua Ashbaugh and Brennan Muecke crossed the line first in the 3,200-meter relay while Verbosky, Rider Carlson, Ty Kraft and Ty Oste won the 1,600-meter relay for Maple Grove.

The Wolfpack girls team did not have an individual winner, but Deidre Green, Tess Flikkema, Grace Cooke and Solki Martin-Lacayo won the 3,200-meter relay (10:02.8). Finley Mitchell was second in the 400-meter hurdles, Isa Kioko was second in the high jump and Lily Johnson was second in the long jump.

Frewsburg’s Cody Kent won the 3,200 meters (10:05.90) and 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:18.53). Other individual winners for the boys included: Fredonia’s Nathan Keefe (110-meter hurdles, 16.08), Cattaraugus-Little Valley’s Bransen Gabel (400-meter hurdles, 58.35), Silver Creek/Forestville’s Nate Mays (high jump, 6-0), Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton’s Walter Lukasiak (discus, 146-3) and Randolph’s Caden Inkley (pole vault, 15-0).

Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton’s Jada Cole claimed the high jump (5-2) and triple jump (34-9.5). Other individual winners for the girls included: Salamanca’s Ryanna Brady (3,000 meters, 11:06.86), Maple Grove’s Sydney Simmons (100-meter hurdles, 16.44), Frewsburg’s Grace Lennon (100 meters, 12.8), Cattaraugus-Little Valley’s Emma Gassman (200 meters, 26.33), Frewsburg’s Grace Gilevski (2,000-meter steeplechase, 8:08.69) and Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s Mary Lundmark (pole vault, 10-0).

The track and field postseason will continue this week with class meets. The Class AA meet will be Wednesday at West Seneca West. The Class D meet will be Thursday at Randolph. The Class C meet in Falconer and the Class B meet in Alden will be Friday. The Class A meet will be Saturday at Iroquois.

The Section VI state qualifier will follow on Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7 in Falconer.
