Baseball Playoff Matchups Finalized
Frewsburg will be the top-seeded team locally when the Section VI baseball playoffs get underway Friday.
The Bears are the No. 1 team in Class C and will host a Tuesday quarterfinal against the winner of Saturday’s prequarterfinal between No. 9 Maple Grove and No. 8 Randolph.
Gowanda is No. 2 in Class C and will host a Tuesday quarterfinal against the winner of Saturday’s prequarterfinal between No. 10 Barker and No. 7 Chautauqua Lake. No. 5 Westfield will travel to No. 4 Falconer and No. 6 Portville will visit No. 3 Clymer/Sherman/Panama in other Tuesday Class C quarterfinals.
In Class A2, No. 3 Dunkirk will take on No. 6 Albion in a Saturday quarterfinal, but with a poor weather forecast, the time and location of that game has not yet been finalized.
No. 4 Fredonia will likely be in a similar situation come Saturday. The fourth-seeded Hillbillies are set to host No. 13 Newfane, but the game may not be in Fredonia.
Also in Class B, No. 6 Southwestern will host No. 11 Tonawanda and No. 12 Salamanca will travel to No. 2 JFK in Saturday prequarterfinals.
In Class D, No. 5 Pine Valley will travel to No. 4 Ellicottville for a Tuesday quarterfinal. The winner will visit No. 1 Franklinville in a semifinal Thursday. The other Thursday semifinal will see No. 3 North Collins travel to No. 2 Brocton.
With only three teams in Class AAA, No. 3 Jamestown will travel to No. 2 Niagara Falls for a semifinal Saturday. The winner will then take on No. 1 Lancaster in a best-of-three series Tuesday and Thursday with an if-necessary game next Saturday at Frontier.
The Class A1 and Class A2 championship games are scheduled for Thursday, May 29 at Frontier High School at 4 and 7 p.m.
The Class AA final is set for Frontier at 10 a.m. next Saturday, followed by the overall Class A game at 1 p.m., the Class B game at 4 and the if-necessary Class AAA game at 7 p.m.
The Class C final is scheduled for 11 a.m. next Saturday at Diethrick Park in Jamestown, followed by the Class D final at 2 p.m.
