Falconer No. 3 In Softball Rankings
Falconer’s No. 3 ranking in Class C softball makes the Golden Falcons the highest-ranked local team in this week’s New York State Sportswriters Association rankings.
First-year coach Emily Narraway’s team is 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 4 play after 5-3 defeat of Ellicottville on Monday. The Golden Falcons return to action today at home against Cattaraugus-Little Valley.
Section V Bloomfield is No. 1 in Class C while Barker is No. 17.
In Class D softball, Clymer/Sherman is No. 6 and Forestville is No. 12. The Wolves are 4-0 overall and 2-0 in CCAA Division 2 after beating Cassadaga Valley last Thursday. Clymer/Sherman will visit Maple Grove today. The Hornets are 5-0 overall and 2-0 in CCAA Division 3 after beating Westfield last Thursday. Forestville will visit Brocton today.
Section V Keshequa is No. 1 in Class D.
In Class B, Fredonia is tied with Allegany-Limestone for No. 20. The Hillbillies are 2-1 overall and 1-0 in CCAA Division 1 after beating Olean on Monday. Fredonia will visit Dunkirk today.
Alden is No. 8 and Springville is No. 15 in Class B, while Section II Chatham is No. 1.
In Class AAA, Lancaster is No. 24 and St. Anthony’s of the Catholic High School Athletic Association is No. 1. In Class AA, Orchard Park is No. 1, Frontier is No. 12, Niagara Wheatfield is No. 14 and North Tonawanda is No. 20. In Class A, Williamsville South is No. 8, Iroquois is No. 15 and Depew is No. 17, while Section XI Miller Place is No. 1.
BASEBALL
Frewsburg is ranked No. 5, Gowanda is No. 14 and Falconer is honorable mention in this week’s Class C baseball rankings.
The Bears are off to a 4-1 overall start that includes 4-0 play in CCAA Division 2 after beating Pine Valley on Monday. Frewsburg will host Chautauqua Lake today. The Panthers are 7-2 overall and 5-0 in CCAA Division 3 after beating Ellicottville on Tuesday. The same teams will meet Thursday in Gowanda. The Golden Falcons are off to a somewhat surprising 5-0 overall start that includes 4-0 play in CCAA Division 3 after beating North Collins on Monday. The same teams will meet in Falconer on Thursday.
Section II Spa Catholic is No. 1 in Class C.
North Collins is No. 7 and Brocton is honorable mention in Class D. The Eagles are 5-2 overall and 4-1 in CCAA Division 3 after losing to Falconer on Monday. The Bulldogs are 4-2 overall and 2-0 in CCAA Division 2 after losing to Chautauqua Lake on Monday. Brocton will host Pine Valley today.
Section III Oriskany is No. 1 in Class D.
In Class B, Salamanca and Southwestern are both honorable mention, while Medina is No. 1. The Warriors are 7-2 overall and 2-2 in CCAA Division 1 after losing to Dunkirk on Monday. Salamanca will host Fredonia on Saturday. The Trojans are 3-2 overall and 3-1 in CCAA Division 1 after beating Olean on Monday. Southwestern will visit Dunkirk today.
In Class AAA, Lancaster is No. 9 and Niagara Falls is honorable mention, while Section VIII Farmingdale is No. 1. In Class AA, Clarence is No. 6 and Williamsville East is No. 13 while Hamburg and Lockport are honorable mention. Section II Ballston Spa is No. 1. In Class A, Iroquois is No. 10, Pioneer is No. 18 and Grand Island is honorable mention. Section IV Maine-Endwell is No. 1.
FLAG FOOTBALL
Fredonia is ranked No. 13 in the Class C flag football rankings.
The Hillbillies are 3-1 overall and have yet to play a Division 4 game. They will do that tonight when they visit Lackawanna, which is an honorable-mention choice.
Pioneer is No. 1 in Class C, Depew is No. 8 and Iroquois is honorable mention.
In Class A, Orchard Park is No. 20 while Section VIII Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK is No. 1.
Section XI Sayville is No. 1 in Class B. Clarence is No. 3 while Frontier, Grand Island and Williamsville South are honorable mention.
BOYS LACROSSE
Gowanda is No. 10 and Eden/North Collins is No. 11 in the Class D boys lacrosse rankings while East Aurora is No. 16 and Akron is honorable mention. Section VIII Cold Spring Harbor is No. 1.
In Class A, Orchard Park is honorable mention and Chaminade of the Catholic High School Athletic Association is No. 1. In Class B, Clarence is No. 13 and Section VIII Garden City is No. 1. In Class C, Hamburg is honorable mention and Section I Rye is No. 1.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Lancaster is No. 11 and Orchard Park is honorable mention in the Class A girls lacrosse rankings. St. Anthony’s of the Catholic High School Athletic Association is No. 1.
In Class B, Section VIII Garden City is No. 1. In Class C, Section I Nyack is No. 1. In Class D, Section VIII Cold Spring Harbor is No. 1.
