Arena To Host Hockey Tourney

The 18th annual National Invitational Scholastic Showcase will be held Friday through Sunday at Nothwest Savings Bank Arena in Jamestown.

“The goal of the event is to gather the top teams from across the USA and Canada under one format to compete for the Governor’s Cup,” tournament director Jeff Mauro said in a press release.

Sixteen teams will compete, including the Jamestown Raiders, the three-time Western New York club champions. The other squads are the Bethel Park Blackhawks, Pittsburgh; Cathedral Prep Ramblers, Erie, Pennsylvania; Culver Academy Eagles, Indiana; DeMatha Catholic Stags, Hyattsville, Maryland; Franklin Regional Panthers, Murrysville, Pennsylvania; Glenbrook South Titans, Chicago; Holy Ghost Prep Firebirds, Bensalem, Pennsylvania; Lake Forest Scouts, Chicago; McDowell Trojans, Erie, Pennsylvania; North Allegheny Tigers, Wexford, Pennsylvania; Ontario Hockey Academy, Cornwall, Ontario; Pine Richland Rams, Gibsonia Pennsylvania; St. Joseph’s Collegiate Prep Marauders, Buffalo; University School, Hunting Valley, Ohio; and Upper St. Clair Panthers, Pittsburgh.

“This year’s showcase will mark our continued effort to promote interscholastic hockey in North America and will surely benefit from our drive to make USA Interscholastic Hockey the ‘first choice’ of young people, who we hope will begin to learn the game of hockey and benefit from the values and lessons taught from our sport,” Mauro said.

The showcase opens with a 1:30 p.m. game Friday on Rink 1. The championship game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, also on Rink 1. The Raiders’ first game is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday against McDowell on Rink 2. Jamestown will be back in action at 8 a.m. Saturday against Bethel Park on Rink 1 and again at 5:15 p.m. against Lake Forest on Rink 2.

Starting at $3.50/week.
